The Thoth Tarot-Key 10- FORTUNE and The Night Sun Tarot-Key 10- The Wheel of Fortune:

are called the Path of Caph or Kaph (meaning: Fist) and runs from Chesed (Mercy) to Netzach (Victory) on the Tree of Life. This path is on the side of the Tree of Life called The Pillar of Mercy, and connects the Personality to the Higher Self (all Sephiroth above Tiphareth are in the Higher Self).

The Path of Kaph, has a mediating function as the frequencies of the planet Jupiter are assigned to this Path. Jupiter, is also said to govern the flow of blood, thus, reinforcing the mediating function of Kaph.

The Hebrew letter Kaph or Caph, is a "double letter', meaning that it is a union of opposites; riches and poverty, which are the natural fluctuations of Jupiter's forces on this path. Since this Path is one of the "Gateways to the Soul", the riches and poverty here are of the Psyche itself.

The meaning of Caph (Kaph) is fist, and refers to a completion of an activity, such as, the closing of a circle or grasping comprehension.

the night sun tarot- key 10-the wheel of fortune

This is a cycle, albeit a closed one, the Wheel of Fortune or Fortune is considered a flow of Karma, which is a state of you get what you put out. The Wheel is an important symbol of the Mysteries, besides that of a prayer wheel, it is also the cycle of birth, death and rebirth.

Therefore, this is not a roulette wheel of chance and accidents, for in Qaballah, it is known that we are solely responsible for our own destinies which the words "freedom of choice" imply. The Wheeling motion of Fortune supplies us with what we earn, which can be pleasant or unpleasant and the words freedom of choice imply that; for Free Doom, the Anglo Saxon root of the English Freedom, states " I choose my own death".

The interchange of opposites is what makes the wheel Spin, in this case, we have, the Feminine-Geburah- Severity, and the masculine Chesed- Mercy, interchanging their forces and form. This interchange of opposites, is shown by the Ten Spokes on the Thoth Tarot card, symbolizing the Ten Sephiroth on the Tree of Life which is a continuity of Force and Form, in equilibrium.

broken image

In his work, The Thirty Two Paths of Wisdom, Dr. Paul Foster Case calls the Path of Caph, the Intelligence of Conciliation which would best be seen as a gyroscope, two wheels interlocking within each other, spinning in opposite directions, for this card represents the mediation of activity between rotating and/or moving opposites. The sense being that there is a cyclic and rhythmic motion of activity, as well as, cause and effect. This motion of interlocking wheels is shown as gears linked and driving the Night Sun Tarot -Key 10-Wheel of Fortune card.

What is interesting here, is that on the Thoth Deck Card, the Sphinx is seen as the stabilizing element in the midst of change and is positioned on top of the Wheel. The ancient Egyptians used the Sphinx image to represent the Pharaoh, usually vanquishing his enemies, with lion like power. Later on the Greeks, modified the Sphinx by illustrating it as a women on a male lion's body. Thus, the Sphinx came to represent the union of mankind, with the raw power of the animal kingdom, and a balance of male (electric) and female (magnetic) in the same form and therefore the Soul/Psyche of the individual. Again the union of opposites, is the birth place of all Power. The Night Sun Tarot, depicts a clock work driven marionette, as the stabilizing element. Implying Fortune's link with Time.

broken image

The Qabalistic concept of the Sphinx is that it is the Synthesis of all Elemental Forces, much like the Pentagram symbol of Man, where the Spirit is the Fifth element above and added to the four elements of the Kingdom. In fact, among the documents of the Enochian Mysteries of the Golden Dawn, the Sphinx has four forms, that of a Bull, Eagle, Man and Lion. These four faces are also describe by Ezekiel in the Biblical interpretation of his vision. The Thoth Fortune and Night Sun-The Wheel of Fortune, are a glyph of perpetual motion where the flying Eagle balances the Man; the roaring Lion counterpoises the laborious Bull.

The Sphinx (shown on top of the Wheel of Fortune) represents the stable element in the midst of change (as the wheel spins) and often represents the Soul . In the tale of Oedipus on the road to Thebes, the Sphinx bared the road and ask a traveler the question: "What walks on four legs in the morning, two legs at noon, and three legs in the evening?"

Failure to answer the question correctly brought on destruction. Oedipus knew that the correct answer was Man, who crawls in childhood, walks on two legs in adulthood, and uses a cane in old age or "twilight years". The Sphinx responded to Oedipus's correct answer by throwing itself into the sea, which is an action replete with meaning for a Qabalist who knows of the Great Sea of Binah, as the Universal Collective Unconscious. In this tale, The Soul, allowed the Personality, Oedipus, to continue since it "Above all things, knew itself" and knew that his purpose, as a persona, was to operate "Mankind".

As stated:

the Sphinx represents the stabilizing element in the midst of change. It is both the balancing phase of cyclic energy and the guardian to the gateway of the Mysteries, holding the secret of life and death. Thus the Sphinx is a gate guardian of the Path of Caph/Kaph (fist) as it is both that through which one passes in birth or death, and that which controls the passage.

The Sphinx symbolizes the directing aspect of the Higher Self in Tiphareth (beauty) and/or The Soul of the individual and being a Gate Keeper, it is protective and keeps the Personality from absorbing more force than its system can handle.

By correctly answering the question of the Sphinx, which is an extension of the Greek Axiom, Man, know thyself, implies that one is ready to pass through the gate of inner consciousness. As in the Oedipus legend, once correctly answered, the Sphinx throws itself back into the Sea, which to a Qabalist means that the Gate keeper is no longer needed and is reabsorbed into the vast Ocean of the Universal Collective Unconsciousness (coined by Dr. Carl Jung) that created it. If the initiate can't answer the Sphinx's question, they are "slain" , which is the protection part of the Sphinx, as it sends back those personalities that are unready to pass consciously beyond the restrictions of time/space.

The dog faced monkey , on the left side of the Thoth Fortune- wheel, is in reference to the Plutonian, Cynocephalus. Cynocephalus is the not only the companion of Thoth but also the symbol of time and eternity. Thoth, being called the Lord of Holy Words, by the Ancient Greeks and Egyptians, is the inventor of writing and scribe for the Gods who records the results of the weighing of the Souls on the Path of Lamed (See past blog on the Adjustment Card). Thoth is also said to divided time into months, seasons and years. Thus his companion is Cynocephalus, the symbol for time and eternity. In a nut shell, the Words of Thoth are the vibratory patterns that turn the Wheel of Fortune. The Night Sun Tarot-Wheel of Fortune uses a Marionette, driven by a clock work, for its symbol of time and eternity.

Being quite esoteric here, the Wheel of Fortune means that when the Higher Self, that brings the Elements under control, bestows upon the Personality that which "knows itself": faithful companions that are the "words of the Logos" (vibratory patterns), freeing the Personality from the General Wheel of Fortune and/or Karma that governs the "sleeping souls" who "above all things" don't know themselves.

The idea of Fate, is shown on the Night Sun Tarot-key10, The Wheel of Fortune, as a back ground of the I-Ching hexagrams.

The Thoth

Tarot-Fortune card, depicts the interaction between the Sphinx, Hermanubis and Typhon; Hermanubis is a dual god, combining Horus and Anubis and is written as Heru-em-Anpu, meaning Horus as Anubis. Sword in hand, Heru-em-Anpu is often depicted in mythology as the slayer of Typhon, who is illustrated as a snake and crocodile shaped image on the Thoth Wheel. Typhon was of Greek origin and was involved in the wars of supremacy of the Gods, but as time develops the complexity of Myths, Typhon became the dark aspect of Osiris known as Set, the combination of these symbols plays out the counter-changing influence of Light and Dark energy. In Quantum physics, Dark Energy is the Pushing Force, the "vibrations" that spins the universe and pushes it outward. This may cause one to wonder if "death" is the pushing force for Life.

Therefore, the Tarot Wheel of Fortune, or Fortune- key -10, represents the fortunes of the Soul. It is a Karmic card that some misinterpret as "punishment for past sins", but that is in error. The reason for Karma, (originally a Hindu Goddess) is simple, Wisdom comes from creating, see the error in that creation, and then correcting it. All manifested- creation has error in it, even personalities, because forms are built out of a type of entropy-containment, i.e. Time, which impersonally decides the creations end. Hence, Fortune or Fate, is invariably linked to the Second Law of Thermodynamics where: "...all things proceed from order to disorder.", and creations are things (Personalities are made of self-thoughts), even thoughts, which are called the first material of alchemy and Qabalah, are "things" and are made of Conscious Energy, that is why they can be expanded and liberated, but never successfully repressed, as energy can't be destroyed. To repress a thought, is akin to trying to compress water or cage a Lion....sooner or later it will break its bonds and the" rage" built our of bondage will kill all in its path. So instead of trying to repress thoughts of anger, a Conciliatory extension of that thought must be made, such as, " Boy this makes me mad, but in truth nothing makes me, I am already made; I am mad because I am not getting my own way."

There are many messages of "Know thyself in this card", first and foremost is that this is a card that represents the Soul's journey as a builder of personality. The Soul builds Persona's out of a type of fractal of the past experiences with life. The Path of Kaph (Caph) runs from Chesed (Mercy) to Netzach (Victory) on the Qabalistic Tree of Life (can be spelled, Kabbala, Cabbalist, etc.) and it is the Path between the Personality and the Higher Self.

In Dr. Paul Case's text, Thirty two paths of Wisdom, Fortune is called the Intelligence of Conciliation because it has a meditative function and that meditative function belongs to the Soul (the meditating Buddha, within) . The Hebrew word Caph or Kaph, is of a double meaning--Riches and Poverty, and as a Gate Way of the Soul, this means riches and poverty of the Soul/Psyche. A Soul is Rich in Personality creation and growth, when it expands and liberates personality from survival thinking but impoverished when survival thinking runs the body and decides the personality. However, the double meaning of "for every action, there is a reaction", can't be escaped, for to create riches, is to also create poverty.

When that Gate Way of Kaph is open and Higher Self knowledge is free flowing into the Personality (built of many personalities over time and stored in the Soul) the Personality is expanded and liberated from the Karmic Wheel of survival thinking which is often shown by remembering Past Lives. Even though the Brain will have and has had one life and no other, the software created by the Soul to operated an Alive being in the name of Life, is kept and passed on to the next body! In other words, the Real Person, finds out that the Artificial Intelligence it created, works! Hence, it passes it onward to operate yet another "living experience of Self Awareness" as a type of "wet ware". In other words, I Am experiences its name of I AM ME, only in a movement of entity. Entity, in physics, is described as a "point in time". The Tarot Wheel of Fortune/Fortune then also represents the Alpha and Omega of personalities and the onrush of time.

broken image

This can be considered as the nature function of Jupiter on this path, as he, is often considered to be the Great Teacher and The Lord of the Force of Life and so the wheel of fortune is considered to be the symbol of Life itself. It is the Duality, of Female/receptive magnetic force and Male expressive-electric force that spin this wheel, and that is why the Greek Sphinx is shown sitting atop the wheel of Thoth's Fortune tarot card, as it is a androgynous figure, representing the Soul/Psyche. The Night Sun's marionette, can also be considered androgynous, albeit a somewhat sexless piece of word sculpture. The wheel represents the duality of all functioning Life; (Alpha-Omega, light and shadow, riches and poverty, electric-magnetic, Female and Male, etc.) The Soul then is the Intelligence of Conciliation as it mediates between the opposite to continue the flow of Intelligent energy in the Universal Tree of Life.

broken image

The Sphinx is also the traditional Gate Way between the life and death of a Personality. When the Personality can successfully conciliate between opposites, it is a kept intact and is then passed through the Gate of Life and Death, keeping full memory of its past and moving forward into the present. That is why some Archetypal personalities are named on this planet, for they keep showing up throughout history as teachers, healers, and/ or Gnostic Souls, whose personalities and Soul immortality are linked in a conciliatory flow of Life Force, that continually expands the Self-Awareness of I AM. Rotation of the Wheel of Life cycles, is then considered a sequence, something which begins and ends and begins again. This is rhythm, a kind of periodicity that is cause and effect and can be considered the domain of the Causal Intelligence (Causal body of the Human Aura), the Intelligence of Cause. The human Soul can be seen, often by intense Prana Yama yoga training, as the Human Aura, composed of 8 "Beings", therefore a type of Fractal of Self-Awareness of the Higher Self. To forestall any comments, most people say there are 7 Auric Beings, but that is because they have confused the body with separation, as if some kind of infection. The Physical body is an Auric Being as well, for it too is comprised of the light spectrum! Besides, living condensed forms of matter, are the Soul's life-work!

The Higher Self or "Real Person", does judge the personality's work. If the Personality is flexible and able to preform under extremes, in Life's Great Work, expanding and liberating the alive from self perceived limitations of operation, it is not "put into the sleep of death", which is a form of anesthesia, and "operated upon". Rather, this Artificial form of Soul, is allowed to continue on the Path it is so successful on. Therefore, to be mentally expansive and liberated, in a world where operations of form are often restricted by rules and violent enforcement of those rules, that personality becomes too valuable to "put to sleep" and it is sent in again, and again, often many times, to help in the evolution of personal presentations of Life. This also means, such a personality begins operating more than just five senses, but also is endowed with the Soul Senses, which we often call Psychic abilities. The Soul is an ardent believer in "Don't fix it if it ain't broke"!

The Sphinx image represents the Soul as a regulatory intelligence as it regulates the amount of information, from the Higher Self, that the personality can absorb without overpowering it with "too much information". This action of the soul, is similar to how the atmosphere of earth regulates the amount of solar ultraviolet light that can reach the surface of the planet, thus protecting planetary life. It is nice to know that the Soul is a Sphinx-Mother and that it adores it's personalities enough to pay attention to them, but this attention is of no use to the Personality unless it pays attention to the Soul. Again, the Qabalistic axiom of "Above All things Know Thyself", has great meaning here!

Now unless surrounded by Trump Tarot cards, The Wheel Of Fortune/Fortune, doesn't speak of "personality incarnations" but rather of good or ill fortune on the Querent's personal daily wheel of life. Hence, the reading will convey the personal Soul's advice to the Querent, often by showing opposites in their life that must be joined to succeed.

It is also important to know that personalities are not your Soul, they aren't really you at all, just Artificial Intelligence, that is used to operate the wet-ware of Life. The Soul is in all actuality, a Solar Evolutionary Intelligence, while the human body, although a genetically modified animal form of earth, made to "channel" the Higher Frequencies of The Solar Conscious, is originally operated by the "instinctual mind" of lady Earth. There are many errors to be solved in the "animal survival mind", and as Psyche of the Star's, we have created an artificial persona, a "ME", that is supposed to connect the Above Conscious of the Sun's/Son to the below conscious of the animal kingdom as a kind of Mercury or Magus-messenger of the gods, therefore allowing the corrections that are necessary to expand and liberate the survival mind from concepts enforced by mortal- limitation. Hence, welcoming the "Animal Mind", i.e. "The Beast Prince", into the more advance mental-immortal realms of Psyche.

Your Real Person is composed of "many" and your self-consciousness can actually "step back" into your Soul-Observer and see the error (s) in personal perspectives that keep your personality from preforming with "winged" feet, and/or optimally in the operation of the wet-ware that is your physical body. Thus, each of us are able to take full responsibility for our actions or inaction, whatever they may be, and expand and liberate our very own personal software from dysfunction. Hence, we are not subject to the "fate of a nation", unless of course, that Nation is our master, an artificial stand-in- authority for our own soul. We are not alone in our dysfunction, we are loved and observed by our Very Soul/Sun, personalities are It's children, and often as children they need guidance from a more experienced source. We often call this guidance, Fate.

Great fortune in astrology is attributed to the Planet Jupiter and the Tarot Card of Fortune is Jupiter's card. The Hebrew letter correspondence is Kaph, the palm of the hand, which is how fortune is read by palmists. The planet Jupiter, is not just considered good fortune, rather he is also the incalculable factor of luck. Therefore, the Tarot-Key 10-Fortune or The Wheel of Fortune, is often referred to as "The karmic wheel of Life".

Representing the Universe in its constant state of change, the Thoth Tarot card of Fortune shows a background of distorted stars, as would be seen from a spinning platform. Some are light, some are dark, all are united in balance, issuing lightning that blaze through the firmament in blue and violate plumes. Suspended in the midst of this churning, swirling mass, is a ten spoked wheel (representing the 10 Sephiroth of the Tree of Life) and the sphere of Malkuth (Kingdom), indicating governance of physical affairs.

The Tarot images of the Three Forms of Energy that govern the movement of phenomena, are the Sworded Sphinx, Hermanubis, and Typhon. Representing the four Kerubs, the Sphinx is a composite of , the bull, the lion, the eagle and the man which also correspond to the four magic virtues of, To Know, To Will, To Dare and To Keep Silent. The four alchemical elements, summed with a fifth, called Spirit, form the pentagram.

In Alchemy, the Sphinx represents the element sulfur and is temporarily exalted at the top of the Wheel. Held in her paws is a roman short sword. The simian element dominates in the god Hermanubis, seen here climbing up the left side of the Wheel. Even though he is a composite god, in this instance, Hermanubis represents the alchemical Mercury and/or messenger.

broken image

In Egyptian Qabalah, the God Typhon, depict as the crocodile headed and serpent tailed beast on the right side of the wheel, who in the primitive world represent volcanoes and horrifying winds also represents the alchemical element of Salt. In Mythology, Typhon angered Zeus who blasted him with lightning bolts, thus making Typhon the father of hot and poisonous winds who also begets Harpies. One would think that interpretation ends there, but in truth, lightning which destroys, also begets; leading us to understand the Unity of Supreme attainment and the delight of reconstruction from destruction. This could also be understood as the logic of Karma.

broken image

It behooves us to understand, that no matter how dense and dull a phenomena may be, a time will come when it must stir. The end and reward for our efforts may became lucid quietude but in the Universe, that pause soon degrades into the original entropy and/or original inertia. Thus, the correction is Changing the motion of comfortable atoms, so that carbon atoms of the living do not become carbon atoms of entropy, id est, diamonds.

All prosperity begins in the mind and is dependent only upon the full use of our creative imagination.

- Ruth Ross, Prospering Woman

Therefore, Fortune or Wheel of Fortune card- key X (Roman Numeral 10) in the Tarot Deck, represents the universal principle of abundance, liberation, expansion and prosperity.

In this good fortune is supported in astrological terms as Jupiter represents the planet of luck, opportunity, and abundance. Hence this symbol reminds us that Divinity/Psyche is the source of all fortune and as inheritors of this unlimited substance we have to accept our positions as Sons and Daughters of the Psyche. This awakens ourselves to the possibilities that can turn our lives in more positive liberating and expansive directions.

Let us open our minds with welcome by saying:

I am a prosperous individual.

I Am the abundance that created and creates Me.

I enjoy manifesting internal abundance externally!

From the North, South, East and West, fortune flows to me in every way that is best. For those most interested in preforming a prosperity ritual, the impeccability of harmonics demands a use of corresponding images and substances in a "prosperity altar" ritual of Skrying. So here are the:

Correspondences (Thoth Tarot): Key 10-Fortune & key 14-Art (Temperance on other decks).

  • In the Thoth Tarot, Temperance is called Art and represents the art of Alchemy and/or the combining of opposites to create balance.
  • The Astrological sign: Art, key 14 --Sagittarius
  • Astrological Planet
  • Fortune, key 10--Jupiter.
  •  The Astrological form of Art: I perceive.
  • The astrological motion of Fortune: I seek.

In the Art card, Spirit that is Female polarity of energy(magnetic) and That is Male polarity of energy (electric) are combined as Androgyny, who is our Holy Guardian Angel. According to C G. Jung, spirit appears female to males and male to females. Here we have Spirit as the Alchemist, the Homeopath, pouring the liquid of life from the silver urn into the golden urn, never losing a drop of life in the transformation from life to death, i.e. the transition of soul to its spirit.

Fortune is shown as the Karmic wheel of life. Fortune comes from the Latin fortuna, meaning, chance, fate, luck and destiny. The word Wheel comes from the Greek kyklos, meaning cycle and wheel. That is probably why the Night Sun Tarot has the marionette on a type of bicycle and the figure eight pattern of infinity and change, is shown in the tiled back ground. All life is shaped of a spiral (spirit means "spiral entity") which modern scientists have now confirmed. The Wheel of Fortune is from November 22nd to December 20th, and the Northern peoples of Europe celebrated a holiday in December called Yule, in honor of cycles, circles, and spirals of life. Yule comes from the Gaelic gule, meaning Wheel. Now it is important that one sets up the Prosperity Altar, with the Art and Fortune card for skrying, along with the herbal essences or plants themselves, and the corresponding stones. It would also behest one to use tuning forks or "singing bowls" that are tuned to the notes of the two cards, as these are the frequencies of the Psyche they operate on. One then can set up the ritual anyway they prefer, incorporating all the above. Light the herbal incense, hit the notes, and skry the cards!

THE 21st PATH OF CAPH: Key 10- Fortune.

* Primary path color: Violet

*Musical note: A#

* Astrological Planet: Jupiter

*Meaning of Caph: Fist

* Hebrew letter-Double Letter: Riches-Poverty

*Esoteric Title: The Lord of the Forces of Life.

To reiterate: The Psyche Path of Caph or Kaph, runs from Chesed (Mercy) to Netzach (Victory). Under Chokmah (Pillar of Mercy), Caph is the connecting Path between the Personality and the Higher Self.

Dr. Paul Foster Case wrote in his Qabalistic Text: THIRTY-TWO PATHS OF WISDOM: "The Twenty-first Path is the Intelligence of Conciliation, and is so called because it receives the divine influence which flows into it from its benediction upon all and each existence".

To Recap:

Recently the Sphinx represents the synthesis of the Elemental Forces (Golden Dawn: Papers on the Enochian Mysteries). This recalls the Pentagram,(symbol of Ascended Man), which is the Spirit above the four Elements.

The Papers on the Enochian Mysteries even state that there are four forms of the Sphinx: Bull, Eagle, Man and Lion, making the Sphinx the cardinal symbol of manifestation. It is the Gate that one passes through both in birth and death and the Intelligence that controls the passage. Being the directive power of the Higher Self in Tiphareth; it is protective, and a Keeper of the Gates which keeps the Personality from absorbing more than its system of reality can handle.

The answer to the Sphinx's question is really an extension of the Greek axiom: Man, know thyself! By throwing itself into the sea, the Sphinx has shown it is no longer needed when the gate is opened; the Gate Keeper was absorbed back into the Universal Collective unconsciousness, i.e. The Great Sea of the Divine Collective Unconsciousness. The Personality is protected by the Higher Self by the destruction of those parts of the personality who are unready to pass consciously beyond the restrictions of time/space. This action can also be considered as the real death process. Those who know the nature of the Sphinx may pass consciously from one state to the next, while others fall into a deep sleep, a "destruction" of awareness from which the soul gradually awakens into a newly assembled condition. In other words to know the answer is to remember "past lives" and to not know is to gradually awaken into a new life deplete of past knowledge. As you can see, this card is vaster than just the Sphinx in mundane concepts, and Greater research is required.

In general, the Fortune or Wheel of Fortune card means that when the Higher Self brings the Four Elements (alchemy) under control, the vibratory patterns (serpentine forces), become our companion and we are no longer bound to the wheel. The Three figures on the Wheel of Fortune represent the "Three Alchemical Principles", which are called in the Hindu system Gunas;

  • Sativa (philosophic Mercury-Superconscious)
  • Rajas ( Sulfur- activity, passion, and desire
  • Tamas ( Salt-- ignorance and inertia, sub-consciousness.)

It is generally accepted that the Wheel of Fortune represents the revolution of natural phases. In the Golden Dawn papers, Mercury is attributed to Kether, Salt is attributed to Chokmah and Sulfur is attributed to Binah., i.e. "The Three Principles of Nature".

When the FORTUNE or WHEEL OF FORTUNE is thrown during a reading, it indicates:

  • That in the next 10 weeks or 10 months there shall be new opportunities for creating fortune in the querent's  life.
  • Life is moving and being busy here, so breakthroughs in prosperity and abundance are approaching fast.
  • Generally this is a good luck card depicting rewards and recognition for things completed.
  • Change.
  • Remember, when at the bottom of the Wheel, you have only one way to go and that is Up!
  • Good fortune and happiness, but within bounds.

  • Sometimes they will be or have been, experiencing a form of intoxication with success, which is due to change.
  • In the next 10 weeks or 10 months, the querent will experience the opportunity for prosperity, abundance and good fortune; a kind of fortunate breakthrough.
  • The manifestation of something anticipated.

According to the dignity of the accompanying cards, this is fate at work, where the querent must await the outcome of events set into motion and there is nothing more to do but to wait and observe how the universal energies respond.

  • There is unity in Diversity so seemingly opposite and unrelated elements are coming together creating a complete surprise in unity. This unseen summation, is what we often call "fate", because we were unable to see the outcome of our actions.
