rider-waite-smith, seven of wands

The Rider-Waite SEVEN OF WANDS, depicts a personification of courage and strength as a person who is "on guard" to the threatening overtones of the other six wands, as if they are quarter staffs in the hands of threatening strangers. Waite stresses the idea of opposition and possible victory, depending on the amount of courage exercised by the person. Again, the Rider-Waite-Smith card is more traditional and mundane than those of the Thoth Tarot Deck. However, the wands are definitely phallic and sprouting leaves, which subtly suggests the application of masculine vital force or Mars. Mars is not only a symbol for combative force but also is a fecund force for growth.

thoth-7 of wands-valour

On the Qabalistic Tree of Life, the Thoth 7 of Wands-VALOUR is ruled by Netzach (Victory) in the Suit of Fire. Victory and fire seem strong enough, except that in the Seven of Wands, Netzack is in Aziluth, the realm of pure spirit. This is astrologically Mars in Leo. Yet all the activity of this Lord of Valor is lower down in the realm of Assiah which is our physical world of transitional elements. This placement is a weakening of spiritual influence. Thus, the position of Mars in Leo may be one of strength and courage and of a Fiery clash , as here we have exalted the "God of War"; However, Valor implies personal physical courage needs to be applied to win the battle, so the fray is certain but victory is not. Here Admiral Farragut's message rings true, when he said,"Damn the torpedoes full speed ahead"! (I think it really was, "Damn the torpedoes, battle speed", but there is some controversy on that; However it still rings true.)Hence, in this clash of forces that are presented in the 7 of Wands, the armies are in chaos and only the crude Valor of an individual effort will carry the day. This tells one that, "Sure, you may carry the day, but only by a impeccable effort of will." That impeccable effort of Will" is I AM Valor!

The number 7 is a feminine number of Venus, and in this case applies a certain passivity to the Force of Mars, not much, but just enough to unbalance the energy. Interestingly, in mythology, Venus and Mars are a married couple.

Netzach, is a Sephira of polarities, as it is on the Male pillar (right hand path) with Venus, a female god attached to it. This gives Netzach the interplay of Mars and Venus. Thus the certain Victory of the 6, is now an uncertain Victory in the 7 of Wands. This is shown in the Thoth Tarot- 7 of Wands, by the three Wands of the Adepts, being crossed by a crude club like wand; implying a lower state of energy. Here on the 7, the balanced flames of the 6 thrown into chaos.

Qabalistic philosophy states that "the gods" are the Creations of the Created. They are not emanations of Eheieh ("I Will Be"-Kether), the One and eternal Intelligent Energy. Rather, they are creations of the Group Mind of the Races. These "gods" are therefore potent forces formed in our own expectations. Hence, they are us.

We humans, who carry the communication of the Spirit Self to the natural self, are the bridge between the Above and Below of the Tree of Life. We are at once the many and the One. We are the I Am Me on Earth (the Divine name of every human); a Transformation of the One Mind's "Self Potential". Therefore, I Am as energy frequency, everywhere at once and nowhere at the same time. If it wasn't for the establishment of a point in time, which is an entity that all of us call "Me", the infinite, I Am(Self) wouldn't have a sense of measurement which is a sense of presence!

The god name of I Am, that is manifest as human, is made of a family of Potent Forces, that are called gods by some, and the Forces of Physics by others or the Whole Self. What stands out is that Tree of Life is a wyrding (old English meaning to Weave) of Forces, a weaving, into a tapestry of potent function that I call "I AM ME'! Hence, we are all wholeness of Spirit-Mind and Body; without division as some would have us believe. Therefore, each of us are both the Transmitter and the Transmitted, and the Physical Radio, body, that picks it up and gives it a presence in this earthly dimension of Time/space ( the other Nine Dimensions on the Tree also have a "point in time"). My potency depends on my "self-awareness"...my perspective of Self. Gods, are such a perspective. For Self is all there is and self-image is all image, and each image sees what it expects to see, not what is really there.

The throwing of the 7/ SEVEN OF WANDS card during a reading implies that:

  • Within 7 day's or 7 weeks, the querent will need to display personal valor to achieve success, as there will be opposition obstacles, difficulties, and quarreling; however, the querent will also have the courage to meet them.
  • Victory is always possible if we have the courage and proper energy excised to meet ignorance, pretense, wrangling, and threat, face to face.
  • The querent is exploring new ideas of self.
  • The querent is standing completely on their own, but knowing how to achieve victory over a conflict.
  • Depending on the dignity of the cards, ill or well, victory may just be in small and unimportant things and influence over a subordinate.
  • Results may not yet be seen from the effort expended, slow down and await the results.
  • A rough way to view this 7 of Wands-Valour (old spelling) Just grab your flaming club and charge! You'll succeed without dying, but you may bleed a little.

If ill defined by the surrounding cards (Thoth) or reversed (Rider-Waite-Smith), it implies:

  • Indecisiveness.
  • Ignorance.
  • discrepancy between instinct and spirit.
