The 8th Sephiroth, Hod, is called Splendor and all language relates to Hod. All 8's are attributed to Hod that as the messenger Mercury, is the patron of Names and vesicles.

8 of Wands, Swiftness, is called, The Lord of Swiftness by Crowley and is assigned Mercury in Sagittarius. The Angels of the Decan are Nithahiah and Haayah. The 8 of Wands, is Hod in Aziluth, the influence of Splendor in the World of Pure Spirit.

The placement of Mercury in Sagittarius, mitigates and diffuses into a rapid expansion the energy of Mercury. Hence, the energy of Mercury in the Sign of the Archer, is shown as electric arrows, going in multiple directions, both above and below. This illustration expounds on the meaning of swiftness and rapidity. A lot of energy, going nowhere and everywhere all at once. Therefore, this card advises that one get a direction , a goal and focus and move !

The fiery colors invoke the concept of Fire as the element of this card, and we know that fire is the Vital Life Force, Spirit and/or Sex energy. Sex energy is the Swift energy that is used to create and achieve imaginings, goals or living beings. This sex energy is shown in the Thoth 8 of Wands, Swiftness, as electric arrows, that like the phallus, are a catalytic agent. Therefore, these electric arrows of energy sustain and constitute the Material World representing the subtle energy of the Fiery Father, bringing down from Chokmah (wisdom), the message of the Original Will (I Will Be!").

The 8 of Wands illustrates the geometrical pattern of the restored Universe (constantly restored by this Electric Fire). The rainbow above the double pyramid of the 8 of Wands, depicts the division of pure light into seven color rays of the light spectrum that exhibit interplay and correlation of the electromagnetic spectrum and the Biblical promise of God to not exterminate mankind by flood. Here We are visualizing energy of high velocity; light speed. The electric energy, because of the principles of Hod, (making concrete that which is subjective), has created intelligible geometrical form. Crowley has stated that "The Wands turned into electrical rays, sustaining or even constituting matter by their vibrating energy". Therefore, what is presented on this card is a 2 dimensional square, a symbol of limitation, give way here to the 3 dimensional octahedron, representing the middle point between earthly square (cube) and the divine circle (sphere). The card also acknowledges that all is vibration/frequency: The point of a string of vibrating energy, is what we see as a subatomic particle; 2 or more subatomic particles vibrating at the same frequency, form a harmony that we call an atom; 2 atoms vibrating at the same harmony, form a melody (molecule) and when Molecules vibrate together at the same frequency, we see a Universe of Form, called a symphony.

With this much energy being communicated, and/or the creative element of wands (fire) emoting through the thinking of Hod (Mercury) means that we are inundated with ideas. Hence, we must form them into a systematic, creative whole, a harmony and let them become reality (emotion=energy-in-motion) which leads to success and recognition (promotion).

Now if the querent is asking about a personal relationship, the 8 of Wands is a symbol for the flames of passion as they flicker in desire for the object of their longing. Therefore, they represent effusive phases, euphoria, and enthusiasm in the relationship. Of course, the 8 of Wands can also be the herald of solutions for overcoming old conflicts and rigid fronts. Act now, before all your energy scatters to the winds!

Tarot Illuminati-8 of Wands

The height of ambition.

The Tarot Illuminati-8 of Wands, uses the traditional art of tarot, albeit more exquisitely embellished. Here the traditional 8 fertile Wands (with leaf) fly in formation, as if in an air show. However, these wands represent dreams and ambitions flying free, unhindered by doubt, conflict or strife. The swift momentum is supplied by one's Will and determination to act, rather than react. It is about aiming for the highest goals; aim for the stars!

When the 8 of Wands-Swiftness, is thrown during a reading, it implies:

  • Haste, swift acceleration meaning that the querent's ideas will very soon be in Physical existence and/or easily expressed in words.
  • This indicates a high energy period in which to initiate change, as in, a fast movement for spiritual growth.
  • Time to put on Mercury's winged sandals, and move rapidly along the lightning Path towards Greater Self Awareness.
  • A rapid descent of power to examine the self-identity, and thus expand its perspectives.
  • An expedient creating of possibilities.
  • Intellectual power.
  • Highest aim or goals.
  • Astounding achievement.
  • Momentum being gained.
  • Giving all you energy to a large number of projects.

If ill defined by surrounding cards:

  • Vehemence.
  • Hastiness.
  • Superficiality.
