The Sun is full-out and Shinning in the Three/3 of Wands of both the Thoth and Rider-Waite decks, as Aries is the sign of Cardinal Fire ruled by Mars. Mars is the power to do War, to vanquish or succeed and is a great emotional period of powerful solar energy flowing through the querent, who must be Virtuous at all times, "or be slain by the Arrows of Apollo", a Greek Sun god.

This is also "full on" sexual energy, as the phallic headed wands of the Rider-Waite-Smith Tarot -Three of Wands shows and can be quite a rush towards creation, as the flaming Mars colored background of the Thoth Deck represents! But again, be Virtuous or "all hell will brake loose". Now don't get me wrong, this is not about Chasity, this is about the type of energetic manifestation of the Solar Phallus, that Tantric practitioners, Sufi and Gnostics, seek to experience, as it enlivens the dormant seeds of self, just as spring does to the dormant seeds of winter. It is an adorable fire but as any fire with too much fuel, this can become uncontrollable to the untrained personality. So take great care with great energy. Never lose focus when passion's delicious heat is rocketing you down the road of creation. Just like driving a very fast car with throttle down, lose concentration, and you lose control, experiencing a big crash!

Thoth- 3 of wands-virtue

In the Suit of Fire, the 3 of Wands-VIRTUE of the Thoth deck is Springtime as the Sun is in Aries. The concept of Spring is shown as the flowering lotus wands in the Thoth card, and as the leafing willow wands of the Rider-Waite Deck.

The Sun is exalted in Aries and the number 3 represents Binah (Understanding) on the Tree of Life which means that the Sun has rekindled the Great Mother and she is fertile and creative.

In the 3 of Wands, Primal Energy is established, as the Will (Spirit) has been transferred to the Great Mother, (shown as the Ocean in the Rider-Waite-Smith Tarot) who prepares, conceives, and gives birth to the Will as manifestation (The Prince-Tiphareth-The Sun/Son).

Since the Sun is at its zenith in Aries, there is a caution of overdoing it ...too much Sun can harm or even kill. Hence, there is an underlying admonishment suggested in this card, one must seek patience and perseverance or succumb to over- weaning ambition. With this much force focused on the personality, Virtue is indeed a... virtue.

In the case of the Three/3 of Wands, Virtue is "always being true to one's Self" which means ,don't violate your inner self (your heart) for any reason. Since I know that everyone I see is another way to be me, I understand that by thinking ill of or mistreating others (including animals) in anyway, I violate my own body's spiritual, emotional, mental and physical balance, as inner thought must enact my emotional-energetic- body as information that must be acted out. As the earth must absorb and reflect the heat/energy of the Sun, my body must do so with my passion. E-motional thought, is ambitious or motive thought and with this much fiery motion (e-motion) thoughts seek ambitiously to bloom! Thoughts must be well directed before they are let out of the "Sun" of the brain; be not afraid to examine the seed before you cast it!

The Four 3's, represent the realization of action, as the Princes have been produced. The Prince of its suit, is shown as the central symbol on the THREE OF WANDS, most obvious in the Rider-Waite-Smith card as a prince overlooking his domain and as the central wand in the Thoth deck card. Therefore, action is commenced for good or ill.

The Three/3 of Wands, is Binah in Atziluth, The Great Mother's influence in the world of pure Spirit/Energy. Here, Chokmah is now named Father, and Binah Mother, as they have unite in balanced dance and given birth to the Sun (Son) of Tiphareth---The Prince, and now growth begins.

When the Three of Wands of either Rider-Waite-Smith or the Thoth Tarot Deck is thrown during a Divination:

  • The Fiery Spirit of their inner sun is focusing on the Querent and great things can be done.
  • There is realization of hope, completion of labor,  and success in the struggle.
  •  There is also an Establishment of force, strength,  and even Pride with wealth, power, maybe a little conceit....which can become greatly conceited in a flash!

If ill defined by surrounding cards (Thoth) or reversed (Rider-Waite-Smith), it implies:

  • There is a gift of great Energetic Will here, but be cautious, for if one is lacking in focused control while driving a 70 horse-powered car, there is often room for recovery; However, if the car is of 400 horse-power, heavily fueled and the driver lacks focus, you will be lucky to live through the accident. This card, the Three of Wands, is of at least 1000 horse-power, the "driver" must focus all their skill here.
  • Moodiness and attention getting behavior.
  • Overestimation of one's energy.
