Thoth- ace of swords

The Unknowable Kether, The 1st Sephiroth which is represented as the Aces in the tarot, is often depicted as the Point.

  •  The  Diamond Crown
  • and the Swastika, buddhist glyph for the "first motion".

However, these symbols only direct us into a journey of understanding that has no goal. We may say the goal, is to understand the Infinite, but the word infinite, even if understood, still is a human invention and therefore, inadequate to explain the "No-Thing" before Time. The point may be the Singularity that was before the Big Bang but as the words may imply some vast understanding, this explanation is empty of experience and to us, incomprehensible. Even we started as a "point", a particle that becomes and atom, to single celled zygote, yet that is almost incomprehensible, let alone the beginning of "Something" that was at first, “No-Thing.

Yet, we are also potentially anything, which makes us not as comfortably understood as one would like. It Seems that the Divine Collective Unconscious, wishes us to be as vast as our forms seem to be limited. This is seen by the Imagination's ability to expand concepts so far beyond reality, that maybe, the thin veil of reality is just imagined. For in one moment we are the Human dreaming of being Spiral Energy/Spirit, the next we are Spirit dreaming we are a human. Much like that old Chinese tale of a Chuang Tzu dreaming he was a butterfly, then upon awakening he wondered if he was a butterfly dreaming he was a human*. Considering Kether, is much the same,

*Chuang Tzu was a philosopher in ancient China, who, one night went to sleep and dreamed that he was a butterfly. He dreamt that he was flying around from flower to flower and while he was dreaming he felt free, blown about by the breeze hither and thither. He was quite sure that he was a butterfly.

The Qabalist knows that All is Mind, and we are not talking about the human consciousness, but the Mind that the Dream of the Universe floats in, and/or the Universal Collective Unconscious. Hence, you are a Psyche that dreams it is a homo sapiens sapiens in the realm of 10th Sephiroth of Malkuth/Earth.Yet, you are and entire "Tree of Life" and Malkuth is a very small, (1/10) part of your immense Self. However, the intensity of establishing an concentrated Identity in the Sensual World of Organic Matter, fools you into believing you are a homo sapiens sapiens dreaming you are seeking spirit/truth.

The Ace of Swords is a "seed or essence of Mind". The Root Powers of Air and symbolizes the influence of Kether in the Astral World. This may be understood as the motion in the Currents of Astral Fluid or Fluid Light, however, that is just the Motion of I Am, which is the underlying movement of everything,

 and not the Power itself.

The Astral realms of Yetzirah, are the realms of Fleeting Forms...nothing solid. Thus the Ace of Swords is a potent card which can be extremely good or extremely evil. Evil, is live spelled backwards, and basically implies devolution rather than evolution. To move forward progressively, is Living, to Move backward by living in the past emotional reality is a form of "living dead" since the past isn't now. Hence, we have philosopher's saying. “Let the dead bury the dead...".

The Mind is called the Element of Air, for it is heated by fiery Passions, as Air is heated by Sun, and it can become violent and life threatening. However, this is avoided if the Will of Spirit, Love, is the controller of Passion, then the Mind becomes Self Expanding and Liberating.

The Ace of Wands represents a natural force, while the Ace of Swords represents that which is invoked; a force called upon. It begins with the declaration of I AM....and what self declares it is as a motion/emotion, such as, I am healthy...or I am sick...sets in motion the "imagined" creation as the Self of utterance.

The currents generated by Kether on the Astral are both dynamic and erratic, having the potential to be applied at will to different situations. Thus, we have the description of a "whirling force" that gains strength through trouble. To Qabalists, this is an affirmation of Divine authority and may become the Sword of Wrath, punishment and affliction. Pure mind has no conscience, it is up to us to supply discrimination to thought.

But let us not despair, for the Ace of Swords represents the Sword of the Magus crowned in the twenty-two diadems of light (Pure diamond like light). To those of magic, the number 22 refers to the Atu known as 22=2x11, the Magical manifestation of Chokmah, Wisdom, and the Logos (The O plus 21 keys). In Hebrew letters that are numbers is the Word of Law that blazes forth on the Ace of Swords, clearing the dark clouds of a Mind based on fear, or survival thinking. I would suggest getting the Book 777 by Aleister Crowley to further study this, as the words "Achath Ruach Elohim Chiim" are the numbers 777 and means in English translation, “One is Spirit of the Gods of the Living". The Ruach being Tiphareth, the Solar Logos and/or our Golden Psyche/Soul. There is a lot of investigative Gematria (Qabalisitic numerology) to understand here so get the book! There is really only One Mind, and all other aspects of Self, are its dream. You then are I AM, dreaming you are a "me". As an I Am, the first material you work with is "thought" and from that data you apply "understanding". Hence, all that you see is "Self-Understanding" and/or Self Awareness.

The Astrological meaning of this card belongs to the element of Air, implying intellectual states of consciousness.

The tarot of the spirit-one of wind-dawn

The Tarot of The Spirit- One of Wind-Dawn, begins the path through mind. And like wind, mind shifts, scatters, cools and dries. It's origins are as mysterious as the origins of breath. The Hebrew name for Kether, is Eheieh-meaning "I Will Be" and sounds just like the breath being exhaled. That exhale of I AM, scattered and cooled the Fire of the Big Bang. Crowley's 777 Sword is a occult way of displaying a veiled secret. For there are 7 veils which mask (persona) the deepest internal pure thought of I Am. The Dance of Salome, is about shedding these veils of intellect to find the real that illusion is reflected on.

How the intellect works in creating "Self identity" include: (From Tarot of Spirit:by Pamela Eakins, PHD)

  1. The Veil of Imprinting: a seemingly irreversible behavior pattern established very early in life, which occurs every time a particular stimulus is experienced.
  2. The Veil of Parroting: the methodical repetition of information that has been "indoctrinated" or "fed" by educators, etc.
  3. The Veil of Social Conditioning: intellectual response based on (what is perceived as) social (peer and parental) expectations.
  4. The Veil of the Clever Show: a quick-witted response pattern.
  5. THe Veil of Ego Reification: vanity and repetition of intellectual patterns because they have in winning the approval of a social group..
  6. The Veil of Spinning Intellect: the onslaught of many ideas at once,  the intellectual stirring that cause insomnia.
  7. The Veil of Massive Confusion: lack of intellectual clarity, obfuscation, and/or bewilderment that stems from attending too many sources of information.

Discoverable beyond these veils, is pure thought, clear as a diamond and fresh as spring, is unfettered by external stimuli and the "words of man". By attuning to the innermost conscience, one can discover the Pure I AM/thought of Self, the Buddha within that is the pure guide in the suit of swords.

Here, the One of Air, shows the crack of dawn, where the early morning wind blows away the dark clouds, as the Sun's bright blade slices into the dark, releasing a myriad of thought forms, in the Formative World of Yetzirah/Subconscious mind. The ideas(not yet information) manifest in the shape of crystals , for communication and butterflies for transformation and emotional expression. There is only One Mind, but many Self potentialities. Hence, I AM is always transforming ideas of self, into In-Form-Action, as the understanding of the myriads of data, produces information. You are Self-Information which can becomes pandora's box, when one allows the massive amount of thoughts to become their only concentration. We are to concentrate only on the Now, for we are entity which is a "point in time". The past belongs to the dead, and the future belongs to the actions of the entity-in-motion. The Pandora's box of the World of Yetzirah, can become healthy discovery or evil action. Hence, Dawn brings the cumulation of all hopes and dreams .
