troth- queen of wands

In Qabalah, Mother Binah is the 3rd Sephira on the Tree of Life; she is called the Sanctifying Intelligence known as Understanding. The Queens are another aspect of this Sanctifying Intelligence and represent the forces of Heh (meaning window or sight) in the Divine Vibration of each suit. By bringing forth a material Force of each suit, the Queens, develop and realize the Force of the King. This is a steady, unshaken and enduring force that is not as rapid in motion, as are the Princes. However, without the Understanding of Chokmah's cold wisdom, no information could be produced. In this Universe, information becomes in-form-action.

In Western Magic the Queen of Wands represents the Queen of the Thrones of Flame; Queen of the Salamanders, or Slamandrines. The astrological attribution is the last Decan of Pisces--the first two Decans of Aries.

Because the Queens are about Materialized Force, there are no Angels represented here, rather the Elementals are the force providers here.

The Queen of Wands is Water of Fire, which would seem rather silly to mundane understanding; However, if we understood Water to be the Great Dark Sea of the Unconsciousness and Fire to be Primal Spirit, than this is less counterintuitive.

This fire is Vital Life Force, passionate, extreme and often violent in Nature, as it is the Motion in the movement of all things of Water. It is "sex energy" and this Queen is a persona of Mature Sexuality. She is no long a young woman looking for a "twin flame" for she knows that she invokes the fire in males and can make any man of her choice a "twin flame".

To show her great control over this Primeval Fire, the Queen of Wands of the Thoth Tarot, sits on a Throne of flames, one hand resting on a leopard and one hand holding the Wand of Fire. Here the leopard represents the ferocity of fire under the on-hands control of the Queen; as the leopard is symbolic combination of Dark fire and light fire, the dark fire (energy) showing through the light fire as dark spots. One could also say that the leopard is the animal nature of the homo sapiens sapiens and with her hand on its head, she is under intimate control of the survival mind/subconscious, which is both shadow/fear and light/intelligent. The Wand, also a symbol of Will, indicates that she is also able to direct the Force she has tamed. This wand is also a copy of the Greek Thyrsus, topped with a cone, hinting at the mysteries of Dionysus and the pineal gland. Those mysteries of debauchery/ecstasy merit further study by the interested student.

tarot personality birth-wheel

This card illustrates a character core of a powerful, sexually attractive mature woman and/or mature sexuality. With great sexual energy, comes great creative potential, so this person is best off if she pores her/or his passion into the arts and/or career. Mature sexuality also means, that sexual union is for personal expansion and liberation, rather than driven by DNA as would immature sexuality. She is very dignified and will not apologize to anyone for her presence.

As with Primordial Fire, this person must practice focus and willful control of their fiery nature, or all Hell will break loose! Oh, did I mention that the figure on the Throne is also comparable to the Goddess Hel* who rules the underworld of deep dark emotions? And in Mythology, the underworld is where mundane souls go to be cleansed of memories of past life and cleansed for a ritual rebirth...of course, on Hel's initiative. This means that the character of this Queen of Wands personality is very choosy in her intimate entanglements, although she is very intimate. She seeks a superior "hero" who submits to her control. However, she is most passionate, loving and nurturing to this "hero", as long as he stays heroic. He willingly sits beside her, just as does the leopard, for her control is such a light touch that it isn't even noticed by the hero/leopard at her side. He just knows that around her, he feels all warm and bright.

*Hel

In Norse mythology, Hel is a being who presides over a realm of the same name, where she receives a portion of the dead. Hel is attested in the Poetic Edda, compiled in the 13th century from earlier traditional sources, and the Prose Edda, written in the 13th century by Snorri Sturluson. In addition, she is mentioned in poems recorded in Heimskringla and Egils saga that date from the 9th and 10th centuries, respectively. An episode in the Latin work Gesta Danorum, written in the 12th century by Saxo Grammaticus, is generally considered to refer to Hel, and Hel may appear on various Migration Period bracteates.

The tarot of the spirit-fire mother

The Tarot of The Spirit-Mother Fire, depicts Leo the lion of the Sun and flames, instead of a leopard and wands. However, like the Queen of Wands, as long as she moves in accordance with nature's law, nature obeys her every command. Here is depicted one of great energy, whose pilot light still burns with intensity when everyone else has burned out. Hence, Fire Mother, also signifies the beginning of something new and possible dangerous with the potential for great success. Her potential for leadership, is often very apparent.

The Fire Mother, is illustrated here as a drop of water that has the ability to control fire. She sits in a lotus position with her knee upon the Lion/Fire, suggesting this control as this fire is not held by her but sits willingly beside her. She sits in front of a rainbow glass portal which leads beyond the veil to a layer of darkness. This level of darkness is the Universal Collective Unconscious Sea of dream and imagery. Therefore, she is guarding this threshold of understanding and balancing fire through love. Just beyond this layer of the dark abyss, is the Radiant Light of Kether, the Eheieh, which is Hebrew for , "I Will Be"! This lady is one of great independance, and wherever she's at, She will be!

When the Queen of Wands/Fire Mother is thrown during a reading, she represents a person of fiery character and implies:

  • Adaptability
  • Persistent energy
  • Calm authority that she often uses to add to her attractiveness.
  • Kind and generous to those who don't oppose her.
  • Hates opposition.
  • Powerfully gracious in love and friendship, all of which is on her own terms.
  •  Her passionate emotion creates a Tendency to be distracted from goals.
  • A deep desire to understand the deeper aspects of spiritual-self.
  • Hot passion and sharp wit.
  • A new motion in the Querent's  life, that may be very dangerous, and therefore, holds great success potential.

The negative characteristics of this Queen, as shown by accompanying cards:

  • Vanity and snobbery
  • A tendency to brood, thereby, making wrong decisions that promote acting in great violence.
  • Her great passion makes her easy to deceive, causing her to react stupidly, tyrannically and obstinately.
  • May be quick to take offense, harboring revenge without good cause.
