The Starman Tarot- King of Wands

I seek to change the world.

The Starman Tarot- King of Wands, besides being a very busy card, depicts a charismatic ruler who is an archetypal man of action. His energy reserves, vitality, and creativity are renown. This King can not only initiate change, he has the discipline to see it to its conclusion. Hence, we have here the symbol of personal inner strength, courage, leadership, and the understanding of how to use the volatility of fire, harnessing its power for the "good of all". One must be cautious about that phrase, "for the good of all", for that is the common phrase of the untrustworthy politician, but this King genuinely cares for his people. His fecundness and fertility are also renown. Hence, the fetuses.

Interestingly, the body of this King is made of "pitch pine", found in Montana and many parts of the world. Pitch Pine is a resin impregnated pine, usually heart wood, which makes the best kindling for fire starting as it is volatile and starts with one match. If used cautiously, it starts a warm fire almost instantly, if over used it will blaze up into a huge conflagration that will quickly burn down a house. The Wand symbol of this card, is the bristle pine limb that is in his right hand with the upper end impregnating a goddess/Queen of energy and the lower end's lightning supply the life force into a fetus. Much like the lightning generated by a Tesla Coil, lightning is the background of this card empowering alien images and alien calligraphy. He is also wearing a crown of thorns, for self sacrifice is the nature of good rule.

Thoth- Knight of Wands

The dramatic Thoth Knight of Wands, is called the King of Wands in most other decks. Crowley wanted dynamic motion and protection applied to his Kings so they are rendered as Armored Knights on Horses in the Thoth Tarot, ready to do battle and not sitting on their royal "duff". Also the Court cards are relative to the Secret of Tetragramaton/ YHVH. The Court Cards are roughly descriptive of persons whose Sun or rising sign at their nativity, falls within the Zodiacal attribution of the card. For myself, my rising sign is the Scorpio, born on the 24th of the 10th Month and therefore, the Prince of Cups would be descriptive of me.

The Knight of Wands represents the fiery part of Fire---The Lightning flash--- and he rules from the 21st degree of Scorpio to the 20th degree of Sagittarius.

This is an active personality archetype that has been called the god Valraven by the Danes. Valraven was said to be the one that gave the secret of magic to mankind, much like the Greek god Prometheus gave fire to mankind. Valraven becomes Hel’s husband king and lord of the underworld. The myth supports the qualities of generosity, fierceness, impetuosity, pride, impulsiveness, and swiftness in what is most often unpredictable actions.

He may seem a "bad ass", but there is a weakness here, because he is "as a lightning flash”, if he fails in his first effort, he has no resource. Obviously, when needed, this Personality trait can be helpful when the goal is known, and the issue at hand is well thought out. However, this is not always the trait of this personality as he can be impulsive, so the Querent is advised to be apprehensive, yet calm and resolute while being energetic. Beware of untimely action and go forward with aware confidence of their own ability.

This is a revolutionary personality, startling in its passion, and perilous in its charge as shown with the Dark Horse leaping. Lots of Sex Force, (represented by the flaming Ace of Wands in his hand) which is Kundalini in the lightning sense of masculine electric force. A real steady mind is needed to handle such explosive force/god power and the only safe bet is that this force is well contained in the Magnetic Force of the Female--within or in a relationship with another individual of a water sign. The Cooling forces of the "Water" (woman) aspect of magnetic female force are needed here for without this Female balance this personality is quick to anger which easily flashes into rages and violence. If a lot of cup cards, or a Princess or Queen are thrown in this reading, the querent may rest assured that the water is there to handle and/or contain this volatile personality. Our souls have many personalities stored as past "experience" and can actually "mate personalities" within itself (anima and animus). So if communication is strong between personality and soul, balance will always be attained.

This is a great Archetypal personality, bold, adventurous, and a "Proper Spear Point" in battle, as long as there is the Female empathy, and mercy qualities balancing it. Otherwise, a perfect demon. Fiery part of Fire is not easily contained and the person or querent who has this personality archetype will raise up just fine from childhood, if they have understanding parents who won't try to "drug them down" from high levels of activity but rather channel this powerful person into many activities that capture their attention. Needless to say, active parents work well with this child personality. Abusive parents will easily turn this bright flame into a horrendous monster. We have the Fire of a Dragon here! This is the fiery nature of the Yod [Spirit] which in the mind is shown as a Fiery-Will. It may help you to know that Spirit is Power and is not always friendly. Spirit is will---and sometimes great will without empathy, can cause great harm!

WHEN THE KNIGHT/KING OF WANDS IS THROWN DURING A DIVINATION:

It implies:

  • The Moral qualities of Activity, fierceness, impetuosity, impulsiveness, and swiftness in unpredictable actions.
  • A spiritual evolutionary, who is shedding old perceptions for new spiritual insight.
  • Much movement and energy while experiencing a new conviction.
  • Releasing and letting go of an old identity or self-image.
  • An entrepreneur who is achievement oriented, creative and self-expressive.
  •  Positive male power personality that has the energy to handle long term goals, and handle extremely complex situations.
  • Full of wit and charm, having a warm good nature, a sense of humor and love of fun.
  • Powerful sexual drive.

If ill defined, he is evil-minded, cruel, bigoted and brutal. This ill definition will be shown by the cards around him.
