The Erotic Tarot-1 of Earth, depicts a sultry female surrounded in olive leaves. This card represents the Instinctual mind, that is the Mind of Earth. Yes, it may shock you, but meta-physicists ,Gnostics, practitioner's of Western Hermetic Magic, and most "pagan" religions, always knew that Earth is a Sentient being.Truth being she has visited me many times; not as a bush, or weed, or animal, but as a female in the shape of the Homo Sapiens-Sapiens, as that body also belongs to her. I have met her on top of mountains, where no one but I was sitting. She would show up out of "no where" and sit down next to me and great me as "husband" and then offer something strange sustenance to me such as "dried seaweed", for she is always of a nurturing nature. Being knowledgeable, I would accept her offer, even if I had to "choke it down". We would then engage in a conversation, the like of which only good friends can. After such meetings, I would feel refreshed, happy and full of life. The lovely mossy, earthly smell of her would stay with me for days. Earth actually loves us; the "nasty" children that despoil her. That alone teaches me a lot. I suppose that ranks me right up their with her Animus, Pan...Well I kind of am an "old goat".

The Earth/Erda/Gaea governs the body and our knowledge of it and the instincts and sensations which this knowledge brings about. She'll often visit the seeker, as an animal guide (the Homo Sapiens-Sapiens is also an animal) for her senses are those of manifested beings of her organic material. Thus the card implies swirls and movement within a stable image or as Zoroaster Stated, “rebounding, whirling forth, crying aloud." Implying swirling frequencies of energy that cause motion.

Crowley took this card as his personal Hieroglyph, so deep study is required to understand his deep and subtle meanings implied by this card. Purchasing his books and reading them over and over is this author’s suggestion to get the brain on the right track, then deep meditations, to get the soul on even keel with the Will of the One.
