Thoth- 8 of cups-Indolence
Santa Muerte-8 of Cups
The Thoth 8 of Cups is like the hangover after the intoxication of the 7. The heavy indolence that coats the brain the next day after a bout of over drinking. Crowley called this card- The Lord of Abandoned Success.
Attributed to this card's heaviness, is Saturn in Pisces. The Angels of the Decan: Vabaliah and Yeshivah.
Here, Hod is in Briah, the Mental World. Hod is the concrete mind; However, with Saturn in Pisces the 8 of Cups, being a Water sign doesn't balance Saturn's leadened energy well.
With Saturn, whose metal is lead, when in a water sign, causes a certain amount of introspection, but it manifests as disinterest with material conditions. The effect, is discontent or a decline in interest in anything. Therefore, one's tendency is to abandon any success previously achieved.
The interpretation of the 8 of Cups, is based on the fact that Pisces, is calm and stagnant water that is completely deadened by the heavy influences of Saturn. We know Water, is the Element of emotions and intuitive consciousness, so what is going on within one's head and heart is a deadening of interest, a complete lack of wonder.
The scene is that of drooping lotuses, for lack of refreshing sun or rain. The Sea of mind has become little stagnant pools, in poisoned soil. All the cups are old and broken, symbolizing "an old and worn out" way of thinking. The Sun of Spirit, is a pallid yellowish light barely shining through the leaden clouds of indigo. Therefore, the 8 of cups implies that the mind and emotions are on autopilot and/or the emotional process is not conducive to expanding and liberating the Life of the person. The blood in the body is moving like molasses. This person needs stimulation!
Not my favorite card, but this dullness of mind, is often necessary to warn us that it is time to evaluate our feelings. Since the 8 is a number of materiality, it indicates how desperately necessary it has become to conquer deadly routine and inner laziness, internally and externally, in order to bring new momentum into one's life or relationships; it is urgently necessary for us to change our ways. Normally, the number* 8 indicates achievement and good business sense, but with the influence of Saturn in Pisces, the achievements have sunk into sloth and emotional laziness.
*Of all the numbers in Numerology, the number 8 is the achiever and measures life by the goals it reaches. It has good business sense, a powerful presence, and a strong drive for success. The 8 is also a symbol of balance -- you can see it in its symmetrical shape. For every blessing it receives, it puts one back out to the universe.Number 8 Meaning in Numerology
Advice of the Dead: Accept your actual situation and possible failures, and try to be receptive and disposed towards a change of equilibrium destined in any case to mutate.
The Santa Muerte -8 of Cups implies the a balance reached by an introspection that comes accompanied with doubt about emotions and feelings. Here is presented a scene of Santa Muerte, crowned with 8 overflowing cups, with lotuses defoliating as if in the dark beginning of winter. Hence, this is a precarious stability and if not faced in a serene and satisfying manner it will easily mutate into a difficult situation, through laziness, self-isolation of fear of possible delusions.
