.New Orleans Voodoo Tarot-Key 15-Courir Le Mardi Gras

Uncontrolled energy.

The New Orleans Voodoo Tarot-Key 15-Courir Le Mardi Gras, symbolizes time that stops in free-fall, where colors whirl in drunken reverie while horses hooves rise and fall in rhythms that awaken ancient memories. Depict on this card, is a bird that has been flung towards the stars and then falls to the hare, frosted ground. Here, in its nightmarish landscape, fate stretches before the eyes (I's) and feathers are splayed in the fierce chill of the wind. Here, a person's head is down, they are experiencing the dry mouth of fear and anticipation while panic marks the feet and the hands fall. Pan is the only god here, as all else has fled before the hooves, wind and the sound of flapping wings.

This depiction of Courir Le Mardi Gras, which means -run the Mardi Gras, is a tradition in southwest Louisiana. Here Cajun women and men, dressed in bizarre costumes, celebrate Fat Tuesday, by riding out in the early morning. Where upon approaching a farmhouse within the perimeter of the Run, the owners hurriedly climb to the roof , each holding a chicken. A chicken is thrown to the encircling riders of the Run and they immediately fight over it. The winner who gets a hold of the chicken, brakes it's neck and hangs it from the saddle, as a sign to all of the rider's daredevil abilities. Later, the chicken is used in the making of a Gumbo.

Depicted on this wild card, is a horned figure standing upon a skull like hut. A red headed, black rooster falls towards the Run that circles the hut. All this wild energy is reminiscent of the Western mysticism's Wild Hunt.

For other uses, see Wild Hunt (disambiguation).

The wild hunt: Asgårdsreien (1872) by Peter Nicolai Arbo

The Wild Hunt is a folklore motif (ATU E501) that historically occurs in European folklore. Wild Hunts typically involve a ghostly or supernatural group of hunters passing in wild pursuit. The hunters may be either elves or fairies or the dead,[1] and the leader of the hunt is often a named figure associated with Odin[2] (or other reflections of the same god, such as Alemannic Wuodan in Wuotis Heer ("Wuodan's Army") of Central Switzerland, Swabia etc.), but may variously be a historical or legendary figure like Theodoric the Great, the Danish king Valdemar Atterdag, the Welsh psychopomp Gwyn ap Nudd, biblical figures such as Herod, Cain, Gabriel or the Devil, or an unidentified lost soul or spirit either male or female.

Seeing the Wild Hunt was thought to presage some catastrophe such as war or plague, or at best the death of the one who witnessed it.[3] People encountering the Hunt might also be abducted to the underworld or the fairy kingdom.[4] In some instances, it was also believed that people's spirits could be pulled away during their sleep to join the cavalcade.[5]

The concept was developed based on comparative mythology by Jacob Grimm in Deutsche Mythologie (1835) as a folkloristic survival of Germanic pagan tradition, but comparable folk myths are found throughout Northern, Western and Central Europe.[2] Grimm popularised the term Wilde Jagd ("Wild Hunt") for the phenomenon.

Therefore the New Orleans Voodoo Tarot- Courir Le Mardi Gras, represents material taken to its conclusion, pushed to its limits and beyond, which creates a point where material turns upon itself in a burning fury. The meaning of the world Carnival is "farewell to flesh". Therefore, material or flesh is taken to its extreme and explodes in a brilliant display of sacred frenzy.

When thrown during a divination, Courir Le Mardi Gras implies:

  • Uncontrollable energy;.
  • Material considerations pushed to their limits.
  • Creativity exercised regardless of effect.
  • Questions of individuality and interdependence.

On the Qabalistic Tree of Life, The Devil-Key 15: The Path of Ayin, connects the Sephiroth of the Solar Logos-Tiphareth with the Sephiroth- Hod which is the sphere of Mercury and intellect. The Path of Ayin, is the Twenty-sixth Path and is formative as in "identity". In the terms of Self structure, it is the bridge between The Personality and individuality of the Soul/Psyche. As I have stated before, the Solar Soul/"sun of god", is the Original Personality of the Divine Child of the Divine Creative, i.e. the Son/Sun. Note: this is not a sexual description of a species, rather it is an Energetic one, For the Son/Sun of God (Original Sun was later turned into Son, by Patriarch enforced propaganda) is a Sun that sends "solar radiants" (Divine Energy) outward as individual expressions of Its own Self ( Personality); from Self into selves that circumnavigate, through the experiences of self-awareness back to Self, i.e. from Tiphareth to Malkuth and back up the Tree to Tiphareth again. Hence, the Soul/Psyche uses the material body to explore identity- data so it can be "understood", thereby becoming in-form-ation. I Am is the Soul/Psyche of each of us, who represents intimacy/experience as "me". Spirit-Mind(Psyche)-body, is our True Self, where 3 form a plane for self-reflection: a triangle.

The Hebrew letter Ayin means -Eye and is a simple letter that also means -Mirth. This double meaning may invite confusion; However, rest assured, that this Path of Ayin is one of the most difficult for western people to understand, for interpretation flies in the face of Christian cultural definitions that have been applied to the Devil. The Devil, is really the Patriarch's programed data that is in your brain. However, being very clever, you are programed to believe the Devil is some other outside force that is after your soul. Hence, you aren't looking at the inner Truth of the "thoughts that bedevil you". The Eye is a symbol for "I" and/or I-dent-ity.

In Barbara G. Walker's Book [THE WOMAN'S ENCYCLOPEDIA OF MYTHS AND SECRETS] which has been honored by the London Times Educational supplement as 1986 "Book of the Year", the provenance of the word devil is noted as Persian. She states." The Words "devil" and "divinity" grew from the same root, Indo-European Devi (Goddess) or deva (God), which became daeva (devil) in Persian. Old English divell (devil) can be traced to the Roman derivative divus, divi: gods. Thus it seems that, from the beginning, gods and devils were often confused with one another." Therefore, promoting obfuscation of identity. She goes on to explain such enlightening scholarship that I highly recommend this book to anyone who seeks an honest education.

There is another fact here that may hide from reason, and that is the combination of the words Devi (Goddess)and Lingam ( Male phallus), is Divya Linga ( Sanskrit word for Divine- lingam) and has also been interpreted by propagandists of Christian past, as the word Devil,: which actually bespeaks of the "Son/Sun of God"/ Zeus Christos, as the Solar Phallus. Much to study here as most of our "knowledge" is propaganda based misconstructions of language! The Patriarch's foundation of indoctrination is based on "divide and conquer" through pleasure/pain training. Since you were a baby, you have been told what you are, whom you are and who is greater than you. All Patriarch/Cultural indoctrination that including "education", is based on you working for the "man", creating the "man's" and/or the few who wish to rule the many, greater vision of their own life. Since your brain isn't fully developed until you are 17-21 years of age, the Soul that makes you breath and whose solar biophoton energy animates you, is unable to install the Persona it made "as it self in you". This is unavoidable since there are size and mass concerns in motherhood. Hence, the Devil is your software, that has been installed for you, as words and man-made identity. These thoughts of divisionism bedevil you the rest of your life, while you try to listen to the "voice within" who is drowned out by the shouting noise of denial in your brain. Energy carries data, and the biophoton energy that animates you and creates thought, as it snaps between brain neurons, is from the Soul/Sun of the Divine creative in you. It is the Psyche, not the personality that you were trained to be. Therefore, you are being possessed by the cruel dogma which is now your demon who controls your body. Therefore, we must go within deep into the neurons of the heart and gut, to find ourselves, as they are still open to the Soul's true identity of YOU; The True You. On the Path of Ain, which means the Path of "I" (eye), one learns to conquer their dogma, indoctrinated devil, and enter the Soul's Truth. Here you find your True Self, and live in heartfelt joy.

To the Qabalist, the Devil in not viewed as an evil entity (lived spelled backward), having its own god-like existence, as it represents a special mystery (Arcana) that must be experienced and understood before we can hope to directly know the Higher Self. Within our Physical bodies. The Devil is the intelligence that is Master of Manifest form (Will to Form is Female), a indoctrinated state of mind which we meet on the Path of Ayin, and must face and conquer. The Path of Ayin, takes the traveler into an understanding that we are entering a transition between the intellects of cultural self- consciousness (individual conscious) and true spiritual conscious.

Therefore, it is common to feel like a "lost soul"; However, the Soul is not lost, or you wouldn't be breathing. Rather, your Real Identity is lost to your "I" sight. For your "I" sight, is wearing the blinder's of worded defined identity. Soul's don't use "the trickery of words" as identity, they use Image. To reflect upon one's self, requires a plane and/or a mirror. Hence, 3 Paths lead directly, forming a trinity, into Tiphareth/the Soul: THE DEVIL (key 15), ART (key 14 called Temperance in other decks), and DEATH (key 13). Now each of these paths represents a special trial for the initiate; However, each student is not required to travel all 3 Paths, but will lack some information if they don't. One way to experience Path Travel as the Devotional Path of the Middle Pillar, where one need only experience the Path of Samekh (meaning- Prop) or the Art Card-ATU 14 (Temperance), leading from Yesod (Foundation) to Tiphareth (Beauty). This is more of a gentle path of the Mystics and demands less mental and emotional will from the Student. The Magi's way of following each and every Path, means the acquisition of control over Forces which each Path symbolizes: every Path confers a unique power (“magical abilities"). A Magus is an active Force of Identity, rather than a Passive one and/or reactive-knee-jerk one. The difference here, is that the Traveler of the Middle Path does learn to balance and know within the Self, the forces of the twenty-two Paths, but understanding these conceptual states of conscious energy does not necessarily develop the ability to manipulate them, which is an art necessary in the development of a "discerning Personality" that experiences these paths; the Spiritual purpose for the human body!

Now I know, that some students of the Occult (hidden mysteries) enter into the studies seeking a type of "Raw Power", hoping to control others and circumstances to avoid pain and "doing unto others before they can do unto them". Such misinformed students soon learn that if such Power is acquired and then misused there is a devastating price to pay. So there is no question that for the timid, the Middle Path is much safer than facing and conquering temptations of the Magical Path.

THE DEVIL represents misaligned Raw Power (Mars), it is the Force that brings about the transmutation of THE TOWER (key 16) and is in the sign of Capricorn (also shown as the Goat on the card), which is where Mars is exalted. Capricorn, is a weighty, even blind sign of Earth and symbolizes the highest and lowest states of individual personality. Yet it is considered a sign of initiation, or release from matter formed limitations and cultural induced personality. These material limitations are suggested by the astrological rulership of Capricorn by Saturn, the Planet of Binah, The Great Mother, the great dark ocean of space, that governs the limitations of form, as does Saturn. "Illusions of form" since you are actually the energy that operates them. These limitations are of both the enclosure of matter or of time, the artificial system by which we meter and enclose all activities. Thus, THE DEVIL also represents the average person's misconception of "reality"; a perceptive belief that the material-sensual condition is "Real". The Qabalist knows the physical-material world as the "1%" world, and realizes that the other invisible”99%" (often called "the other side of the Mirror") is the Real.

The common misconception of reality, that is programed into you by "brainwashing" (pleasure /pain training), is symbolized in 2 ways on THE DEVIL card; the smirking mouth and the Goat represents the humorous figure of the childhood nemesis the "Bogey Man”. This Card emphasizes the knowledge that our belief in the illusion of matter (Matter is only .4% visible as even our bodies are 99.6% space!) controller of our Identity, is actually laughable while implying that laughter and a humorous approach to our lives is a tool which will help our consciousness to transcend the illusion of "seeing it to believe it", as belief is what makes image seen. Mirth is the first great corrective and helps us not to take our perceptions of the material world seriously, which only means "fearfully". It pays to noted that the Survival Mind of the animal, is our survival mind, and is where the Devilish tempter that tricks us into believing we are as Moons who are at the mercy of Forces rather than the Magus (The Sun) who manipulates them, resides.

When the Thoth Devil card is thrown in a divintion, it implies:

  • Strong suggestive and instinctive power.
  • Lust for power.
  • The fight against evil.
  • The encounter with the shadow.
  • The sum of unlived possibilities.
  • Perception of the True and Complete Self.
  • Lucifer as the bringer of light. The literal meaning of Lucifer is "morning star," from Latin: Lucifer the name the ancient Romans gave to the morning star, literally "bearer of light" from lux (genitive lucis) "light" + ferre "carry". The morning star is the planet Venus when it appears in the morning sky at dawn. Propaganda of the Patriarch, has profaned the Soul of you, for your soul is the "Bearer of Light", a Photon "Sun of god".

If this card is ill defined by the surrounding cards:

  • Fateful entanglements.
  • Self destructive drives. (these come from believing you are your personality. Persona, the root word of personality, means "mask" and therefore, you are thinking  the "mask" runs the actor,  rather than the actor running the mask, so then you destroy yourself, rather than remove the bedeviling mask.)
  • Dark powers.
  • Collective hysteria.
