Thoth-Queen of Disks
The 3rd Sephiroth-, Binah is the "will to form" and is a force that is imposed on the Pure Fiery Energy of Chokmah. She is known as Understanding, for an idea, once understood, can be molded into manifestation. She is personified in the Queen of Disks.
Again, these are not Persons, but Personas of Conscious Energy, called "Beings" that are parts of the Divine Collective Unconscious, meaning the deep Imagination, where images are forms of ideas. Images are the only way to realize these deep inner layers of Mind and that before Mind. Tarot is one of the Image languages that has evolved over time. A Creator is an "Image maker", and/or has Imagination. Imagination is the Muse of all Creation and/or the "Will to Form". It is the "Womb with a view". Binah as the 3rd Sephiroth on the Tree of Life, in the upper Trinity called the Supernal Triangle, she is the essence of Womb, and I often call this state of Mind a "Womb with a View", because she conceives by understanding. When understood, ideas become information that forms complex images in the Great Dark Ocean of Mother.
The Queens all represent the Water in each suit. Water being Unconsciousness, intuition and emotion. They are enthroned in the Element of Consciousness and as emotion (energy-in-motion) make it bring forth the Force of the King; realization and understanding develops the measurement of force as consciousness does to emotionally charged idea.
The Queen of Disks, often called the Queen of Pentacles, is also Queen of the Thrones of Earth; Queen of the Gnomes. Astrological attribution is last Decan of Sagittarius and the first two Decans of Capricorn. The Queen of Disks is Water of Earth, a specific consciousness in the Primal Earth element. Most of us call her "Mother Nature" . Some ancients called her "GrandMother River" acknowledging her serpentine motion.
The Thoth Deck Queen of Disks is displaying her ruler ship over earth as shown in the crystal cubed scepter that has within it a three-sided Hexagram. Also she could be compared to the Roman Abundia whos cornucopia* overflowed with all good things harvested.
In classical antiquity, the cornucopia (/ˌkɔːrnjəˈkoʊpiə, ˌkɔːrnə-, ˌkɔːrnu-, ˌkɔːrnju-/, from Latin cornu copiae), also called the horn of plenty, was a symbol of abundance and nourishment, commonly a large horn-shaped container overflowing with produce, flowers, or nuts.
Baskets or paniers of this form were traditionally used in western Asia and Europe to hold and carry newly harvested food products. The horn-shaped basket would be worn on the back or slung around the torso, leaving the harvester's hands free for picking. Her zodiacal attribute to Capricorn is shown by the image of the Goat. Her Throne is vegetation as she is the life of such. She is the Highest Aspect of passivity and this is shown as a winding passive river flowing through and fertilizing waste land. The Great Work is ultimately expressed in fertility, where the "As the Above manifests in the below" She as Queen, is the facilitator of such manifestation. Lady Frieda Harris, the artist of the Thoth Tarot, created the Queen of Earth as an image of Erda, the Teutonic Queen of Earth*.
The Disk on her left arm is curved with loops and spheres interlaced, representing the ambition of matter to take part in the Great Work and is often called "Sacred Geometry". This ambition is often described as the fecund serpentine motion. This is also shown by the Spiral Horns on Her helmet/crown, as Spiral force which is both Spirit and Vital Life Force. The reptilian patterned armor of the Queen represents the regenerative force in nature as serpents shed their skin to become more.
*"ERDA "IS THE NORSE GODDESS OF THE EARTH; SHE EXISTS IN AND OF THE EARTH IN A CAVE WHICH WAS SET NEXT TO THE ROOTS OF THE GREAT TREE, "YGGDRASIL", THE WORLD TREE WHO REPRESENTS THE NURTURING OF ALL LIFE. AS THE "SLEEPING EARTH GODDESS OF KNOWLEDGE, "HER PLENTIFUL FOUNTAIN OF WISDOM FLOWS AT THE ROOTS AND WATERS THE WORLD TREE. SO MAGICAL IS HER WATER THAT THE TREE GREW SO LARGE AS TO ALLOW ITS LIMBS TO REACH THE HEAVENS.
ERDA IS THE MOTHER OTHER OF THE THREE NORNS AND IS ALSO THE MOTHER, BY WOTAN, OF THE NINE VALKYRIES. SHE HAS THE ABILITY TO SEE THE FUTURE AND POSSESSES A GREAT WISDOM, AND ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION, WE FIND WOTON ASKING FOR ADVICE FROM ERDA. SHE RISES FROM THE EARTH ONLY WHEN SHE SEES IMPENDING DISASTER.
AND, BECAUSE OF HER ASSOCIATION WITH FATE, THE NORSE THOUGHT THERE WAS A CLEAR CORRELATION BETWEEN ERDA AND THE ART OF DIVINATION. HENCE, THEY OFTEN TURNED TO THE EARTH ITSELF FOR GUIDANCE BY USING MANY ASPECTS OF IT AS ORACLES ANIMALS, BIRDS, THE SKY, AND EVEN THE OCEAN. THEY BELIEVED OBSERVATION OF THESE PHENOMENA COULD OFFER DIVINE ANSWERS.OTHERS BELIEVED ERDA COULD BEND THE POWERS OF FATE OVER WHICH SHE RULED.
Santa Muerte-Queen of Pentacles.
The Advice of the Dead:
Do not remain too attached to what you have obtained or earned, but continue climbing without worrying about how much you are risking.
--From the Santa Muerte-Book of the Dead by Fabio Listrani
The Santa Muerte Tarot- Queen of Pentacles, depicts a Central American figure that seems to be harvesting avocados. Here she is presented as a self-confident, able and influential personality, able to cope in the material world without problems and from which she is abundantly awarded. Such a personality is born (see tarot wheel of birth) in the period of Dec. 22nd to Jan. 19th.
She is an ambitious personality who desires always to climb higher, but for fear of falling or failing, her risk taking remains a victim to uncertainties, hesitation, or showing advid and capricious behavior.
When thrown during a reading, the Queen of Discs/Pentacles represents:
- A person interested in physical nutrition and health.
- A shedding of poor eating habits for those of a new diet.
- A shedding of old habits, or even the purchasing of new clothes.
- The querent does all things she/he can do, well and it will be fruitful
- One of a high level of compassion, nurturing abilities. Loving physical life and all it has to offer.
- One who is exceptionally procreative and nurturing, as in the nature of Mothering.
- Power of practical wisdom on the physical level and in the inner world, applied spiritual wisdom.
- A dark woman of great heart and serious cast of intelligence.
- Also implies presents from a rich relative or a rich and happy marriage for a young man.
- Erda, the Teutonic Mother Earth seen as a warm and nurturing deity.
- Overflowing fertility.
If ill defined by surrounding cards:
- Capricious behavior.
