New Orleans Voodoo Tarot- Rada-Damballah Wedo
The New Orleans Voodoo Tarot- Rada-Damballah Wedo, is of the Element of Rada/ Air. "Da" is a root word that refers to the serpent or serpent power. Damballah Wedo is the ancient sky Father. He is often depicted as an serpent arching across the sky, next to his rainbow wife, Ayida Wedo. He is entirely beneficent, and is known as the origin of life and wisdom. His color is pure white, why he isn't depicted pure white on the New Orleans Voodoo Tarot is probably because that Pure White is unattainable on our reflected light plane. Plus the fact he shows up better red, than he would white on the art of this card. He represents the Western Qabalistic Sephiroth-Kether, who is also shown as the purity of White light. Hence, the Diamond Crown is used as a symbol for Kether, as diamonds reflect the purist light on earth.
One calls on Damballah Wedo when in need of a blessings of serenity and peace. Call on him when luck or wisdom is needed. Shown here, Damballah Wedo is at peace, a vision of perfect stillness as he shows no tendency to move in any direction. Only when invoked, can he move in helpful or hurtful directions. Left alone, he hangs peacefully, in perfect balance on his airy perch.
When thrown in divination, Damballah Wedo implies:
- Great energy called to good or ill.
- Stationary forces are roused and called into action.
- From stillness to action.
The Unknowable Kether, the Power represented in the Aces, is often depicted as the Point, The Crown and the Swastika, as explained in past chapters; however, these symbols only direct us into a journey of understanding that has no goal. We may say the goal, is to understand the Infinite, but the word infinite, even if understood, is a human invention. Thus inadequate to explain the "No-Thing" before Time. The point that is Kether, is the Singularity that was before the Big Bang but as the words may imply some vast understanding, this explanation is empty of experience and incomprehensible.
Yet, we are also potentially anything, which makes us not as comfortably understood as one would like. It Seems that the Divine Universal Collective Unconscious, wishes us to be as vast as our physical forms seem to be limited. This is seen by the Imagination's ability to expand concepts so far beyond reality, that maybe, reality is just an imagined collection of “comfortable limits”; One moment we are the Human dreaming of being Spiral Energy, the next we are Spiral Energy dreaming we are a human. *Much like that old Chinese tale of a Zhuang Zhou, a Taoist Philosopher dreaming he was a butterfly, then upon awakening he wondered if he was a butterfly dreaming he is a man. Considering Kether, is much the same: Am I dreaming about the Divine Creative or is the Divine Creative dreaming it is me.
The Western Qabalist knows that all is Mind, and we are not talking about the human consciousness, but the Mind that the Dream of the Universe floats in.
*Zhuang Zhou , commonly known as Zhuangzi ( ; Chinese: 莊子; literally "Master Zhuang"; also rendered as Chuang Tzu ), was an influential Chinese philosopher who lived around the 4th century BC during the Warring States period, a period corresponding to the summit of Chinese philosophy, the Hundred Schools of Thought. He is credited with writing—in part or in whole—a work known by his name, the Zhuangzi, which is one of the foundational texts of Taoism.Zhuang Zhou - Wikipedia
The Ace of Swords is a "seed or essence of Mind". The Root Powers of Air and symbolizes the influence of Kether in the Formative World of Yetzirah; an influence that may be understood as the motion in the Currents of Astral Fluid, however, that is just the disturbance and not the Power itself. The Astral realms are the realms of Fleeting Forms...nothing solid. Therefore, the Ace of Swords is a potent card which can be extremely good or extremely evil. Evil, is live spelled backwards, and basically implies devolution rather than evolution. To move forward progressively, is Living, to Move backward, is "living in the past" which is a form of "living dead", since the past isn't now. Thus, we have Gnostic Philosopher's saying. “Let the dead bury the dead...". For those who live in yesterday's reactions, are dead to the moment.
The Mind is of the Element of Air, for it is heated by Passions, as Air is heated by Sun, and thus it can become violent and life threatening. However, this is avoided if the Will of Spirit, is the controller of Passion, then the Mind becomes Life Expanding and Liberating.
The Ace of Wands represents a natural force, while the Ace of Swords represents that which is invoked; a force called upon.
The currents generated by Kether on the Astral are both dynamic and erratic, having the potential to be applied at will to different situations. Thus, we have the description of a "whirling force" that gains strength through trouble. To the Western Qabalists, this is an affirmation of Divine authority and may become the Sword of Wrath, punishment and affliction. Pure mind has no conscience, it is up to us to supply discrimination and/or discernment to thought.
But let us not despair, for the Ace of Swords represents the Sword of the Magus crowned in the twenty-two diadem of light. To those of magic, the number 22 refers to Atu known as 22=2x11, the Magical manifestation of Chokmah, Wisdom, and the Logos and the Fool, for all comes from 0 and returns to 0. In what seems to be Greek letters, the Word of Law blazes forth on the Sword, clearing the dark clouds of a Mind based on fear, or survival thinking.
I would suggest getting the Book 777 by Aleister Crowley to further study this, as the words "Achath Ruach Elohim Shin" are the numbers 777 and means in English translation, “One is Spirit of the Gods of the Living". The Ruach being Tiphareth, the Solar Logos and/or "The Sun/Son of God". There is a lot of investigative Gematria/Numerology to understand here so get the book! The Sun/Son of God, is the understandable Solar Soul, i.e., Psyche. Whereas Kether is not really understandable for the concept of limitless light, is only darkness as light can only be seen when in measurement.
The Kether is God not living, The Letters, Achath Ruach Elohim Chiim, represent the Spiral Energy that produces Living Creation- 777, which is also the number of the Scarlet Woman. The Red Goddess, the Blood of Life. Crowley named her Babalon. Therefore, the Mind is seen as the "First Womb" and the "First Phallus", for impregnates itself. As the Ancient Greeks said about the All Mother-Hera, "From her she creatied herself". Since compares this card to the Scarlet Woman, he is comparing it to the Western **Morgan Le Fay- " Morgan the fate".
Morgan le Fay. Her character may have been partially derived from Welsh mythology and other earlier myths. The earliest account, by Geoffrey of Monmouth in Vita Merlini, refers to Morgan in conjunction with the Isle of Apples ( Avalon ), to which a fatally wounded Arthur is carried after the Battle of Camlann.
No matter the myths and metaphors, it pays to remember, you are Spirit, who dreams it is a form. The form is not dreaming it is a spirit. You must become a Lucid Creative in your dream of being life. One who acts now, for Spirit is Fire/Will-Action. While the body is reaction. Live in reaction, you're a body dreaming it is a spirit. Be living action, you are a Spirit dreaming it is a body.
