Medieval Feathers Tarot- Page of Wands-Creativity

Thoth-princess of wands

The Princesses/Pages and the Aces:

The Thoth Tarot Ace of Wands is the Essence of Fire given form by the Princess — shown as a blazing club whose flames articulate themselves in Yods. Think of the Ace as the pollinator and the Princess as the flower. The Ace is the seed of the Alchemical Element Fire: a solar-phallic outburst of flame — a microcosmic eruption from which lightning forks and radiates in many directions. If you stood before the Sun and watched it spit its kernel into space, you would see something like this: multiple solar flares ejecting the “seed” of the Sun into the dark womb of space-time.

This card marks the earliest stage of primordial matter: not yet individual will, but pure expression and violent flux. It is formative force without yet a personality — raw creative impetus, incandescent and unshaped.

Remember: the small cards sympathize with their numbered Sephiroth but are not identical to them, nor are they Divine Persons. They function as sub-elements and as parts of those “blind forces” whose ruling intelligences belong to the World of Yetzirah — the Formulative world (Shem-hamphorash). The Court cards, by contrast, are archetypes of personality. Thus when we compare a birth-date or natal resonance to a Court card, we are pointing to the core persona — the structural template of how that soul habitually expresses itself. But the soul predates incarnation; layer upon layer accretes around that core: previous lives, spiritual conditioning, and the overlay of socially-manufactured identity. This is why many seekers feel fractured and uncertain about “who” they are. The work is to go deeply within and find the real person — the animating Solar kernel that the Soul created.

Perhaps startling — and demanding of patient inquiry — is the fact that each Major Atu possesses its own internal Tree of Life and hierarchy. In other words, the “Supreme Being” is fractal: every Atu projects a miniature, resonant Tree. Yet those triangular worlds are echoes — copies — of the Original Triangle, Aziluth. The Tree of Life is therefore a fractal mirror of psyche and soul. This observation opens a vast field of investigation for the student. I am still walking this path of inquiry myself.

The Princess of Wands (Earth of Fire)

The Princess of Wands — called the Page of Wands in traditional decks — embodies the Earthly part of Fire. She is the expression of irresistible combustion, the magnetic field that gives Fire direction and shape. If the Ace of Wands is the raw, unformed, solar eruption — unwilled, chaotic, and primal — the Princess is the magnetic aurora that bends and justifies this fiery torrent into radiant arcs of purpose.

She rules from the Heavens over one quadrant around the North Pole, identifying her as a pole of attraction, a magnetic intelligence. Her mystery is that of Magnetic Force: the invisible feminine current that receives, directs, and shapes the electric male discharge. Just as Earth’s magnetic field gives form to the solar wind — seen as shimmering curtains of aurora — so too does the Princess give trajectory to the Ace’s eruption. Without her, Fire disperses. Through her, Fire becomes dance, spiral, and creative surge.

On the Thoth card, she is depicted naked — a declaration of perfect freedom and availability for union. Flames of Justice leap from her forehead, showing that her inner vision is not blind instinct but fierce truth, the justice of elemental Fire in form. She carries a wand crowned with the solar Disk, erupting into spirals of flame — a clear glyph of the Sun entering the womb of Earth, the electric flame compelled into a dance by the invisible magnetic partner.

Hermetic Keynotes

  • Elemental Nature: Earth of Fire
(The stabilizing magnetic container of a primal solar force.)

  • Function: To give form and justice to Fire; to direct the seed-force of the Ace into spiral growth.

  • Magnetic vs. Electric:

    • Ace = Electric discharge, phallic outburst, primal seed.

    • Princess = Magnetic field, feminine form-giver, aurora-veil.

  • Iconography: Nakedness = freedom; flames of justice on forehead = Solar truth; wand + Sun-disk = solar phallus received, directed, justified.

Deeper Hermetic Insight

In the Fourfold Court system, the Princesses are not passive but are Earth’s active magnetic poles. They anchor and justify the Ace’s seed in manifestation. They are daughters of their element, but they also carry within them the potential to become Queens — the Mothers of new cycles. Thus, the Princess of Wands is not simply “Earth of Fire,” but the field in which Fire finds its integrity. She is both magnet and matrix.

In Qabalistic meditation, she may be contemplated as the aurora borealis of the soul: the dance of Spirit’s raw seed through the subtle magnetic patterns of the psyche. She invites the student to learn how to direct their raw Will-to-Be into a spiraling dance of becoming, rather than letting it disperse in blind combustion.

Suggested Practice

  • Aurora Visualization: Meditate on the Princess card while visualizing the solar seed (Ace) streaming into the magnetic veil of the aurora. Feel your own aura as that field, shaping the raw life-force into luminous arcs.

  • Justice Flame: Focus on the flame leaping from her forehead. Ask: Where in my life does Fire need to be given form through truth and justice?

The Princess of Wands — Earth of Fire

The Princess of Wands is the Virgin Priestess of the Lords of Fire, leaping into the realm of Yetzirah where the fiery intelligences reside. In this sense, she embodies the Vestal service to flame — and on the Thoth card, Crowley and Harris mark this with the flame-topped Altar of Spring in the lower left corner, reminiscent of the ancient Roman Vestal Virgins tending the eternal flame. She is the magnetic feminine who directs and sanctifies fire, the aurora that bends raw solar discharge into patterns of radiance.

The “seed of Fire” — the Ace of Wands — is now given personal, willful expression through the Princess. She is brilliant and daring, seizing passion by the tail and giving it direction. The Thoth art shows this literally: she grasps the Tiger by the tail, demonstrating not control through domination, but mastery through fearless embrace. Where she moves, passion follows.

Her Beauty as Force

Her beauty is not passive ornament but the incandescence of will. She dazzles not because she conforms to form, but because she radiates form-giving energy. Fire is her essential nature, and she is as vigorous as a flame-dancer shaping circles of fire. This beauty is volatile, intoxicating, and dangerous.

Her force may manifest as love or anger — both charged with sudden brilliance, both equally irresistible. The beholder is magnetized by her flame, but warned: this energy is not to be possessed. As with fire itself, to mistake beauty for ownership is to risk annihilation. Her anger, once provoked, is terminal.

Keynotes for Aspirants

  • Title: Princess of Wands / Earth of Fire

  • Role: Virgin Priestess of the Lords of Fire (Yetziratic forces)

  • Symbols: Tiger by the tail, Altar of Spring (Vestal flame), wand with solar disk and spiral flame

  • Function: Gives personal will to the Ace’s seed of Fire

  • Qualities: Brilliant, daring, vigorous, dazzling, volatile, dangerous, passionate, magnetic

Hermetic Lesson

The Princess of Wands teaches that Fire must leap into Earth to find form. Without her, Fire disperses in blind eruption; through her, it becomes dance, magnetism, beauty, and direction. She shows that the Magnetic Feminine is the hidden shaper of the Electric Masculine. Her lesson to the student is both alluring and perilous:

  • Embrace passion without fear.

  • Direct passion without attempting to possess it.

  • Recognize that beauty is force, not merely form.

  • Remember that Fire in Earth is both creation and destruction.

Suggested Meditation

Visualize yourself as the Princess, standing before the Altar of Spring. Flames leap from your forehead as the justice of Fire. A tiger paces nearby; you seize its tail, and instead of resistance, the beast flows with your direction. Around you the aurora arcs, as solar seed streams into magnetic curves. Ask:

Where does my passion need direction? Where am I trying to possess what should only be guided?

Medieval Feathers Tarot-Page of Wands-Creativity

In keeping with medieval tradition, the Page of Wands is shown as an enticing young man standing in his garden. He is aware that his creation must continue, but he pauses, wondering what else it may require to reach fulfillment. The staff he carries is his muse — a tool of inspiration that motivates him and sparks the fires of creativity. In his other hand, the shield represents a partial tool, a symbol of protection and foundation, but insufficient on its own to bring his vision into being. Much more is required before the masterpiece is complete. For now, with Cassin’s Auklet’s feather as his companion, he begins jotting down ideas, capturing sparks of insight so that, when the time comes, his project may be realized successfully.

Upright Meaning

When the Page of Wands appears in your spread, it signals a situation in which your talents must be refined and your ideas expressed more fully. It is not enough to dream — now is the time to sketch, draft, or prototype what stirs in your imagination. Begin by investing time into something you enjoy, especially creative pursuits such as art, writing, music, or craftsmanship. This Page reminds you: never underestimate your own creativity, nor shrink from sharing it. Your art is your voice; your expression is your birthright.

Reversed Meaning

When reversed, the Page of Wands cautions that you may be confusing desire with need, chasing impulses without grounding them in what truly supports your growth. The card suggests that you pause and carefully select what you truly want for yourself. Seek out what nourishes your whole being — mind, body, and emotions — rather than scattering energy into every passing spark. In reversal, this Page is not a warning against creativity but a call to refine the flame into a steady lamp that benefits your health and path.

Hermetic Note (for aspirants)

Even in this medieval deck, the Page of Wands resonates with the Princess of Wands (Earth of Fire) from the Thoth tradition. Both archetypes remind us that raw fire needs grounding: whether through jotting down ideas, shaping flame into dance, or seizing the tiger by the tail, the message is the same — creative potential must be directed, refined, and expressed, or it risks dispersing.

Princesses as Elemental Elohim

The Princesses embody the Elemental Elohim — the fiery, watery, airy, and earthy beings that Eliphas Levi warned about when he wrote:

“The love of the Magus for such creatures is insensate, and may destroy him.”

To embrace the Princess of Wands — the Elohim of Fire — is to risk consuming passion. She is spontaneous, dazzling, and unforgiving. She sits upon the Throne of the Ace of Wands, as the Empress of the Elementals. Anger her, and your life becomes havoc — as the unrestrained flame consumes every form in its path.

Crowley hinted at this truth in his vision of the Scarlet Woman (Babalon): she does not belong to one man, nor can she be possessed. She is Fire itself. Those who cling in lust for result are consumed. Yet those who release themselves into her furnace rise renewed — phoenix, wyrm, dragon — reforged by Divine Frenzy.

The Path of Fire

If there is even a spark of the Eternal Masculine Fire within you — regardless of sex — then when the Kundalini awakens like a serpent through your spine, the Princess of Wands may crown you with her flame. If your will is unshakable, if you lust not for result but for Being itself, she will give you wings of fire and you will blaze as a star. She will share rule with you over her element, and grant “magical abilities” born of fire’s clarity and transformation.

But beware: if your will falters, if you crave results, possession, or outcome — the harmony collapses. Her serpent-force amplifies your flaw, and instead of illumination you inherit fury, madness, and ruin. This is why the ancients taught caution: the Princesses are tests of purity, not of desire.

Hermetic Lesson

The Princesses/Pages embody the raw elemental gateways:

  • They are virginal because they are pure beginnings.

  • They are dangerous because they cannot be possessed.

  • They are transformative because they refine the will by fire.

For the Magus, the Princess of Wands is both peril and promise. She will consume the false self, and if you emerge, it is as phoenix or dragon — one who has mastered Fire, not been devoured by it.

Suggested Meditation

Sit with the Princess of Wands. Envision yourself seated before her throne, where the Ace of Wands blazes as an altar flame. Whisper into the fire your secret will. Then watch as the flame either:

  • Leaps upward and transforms you into a blazing star (phoenix rising), or

  • Turns wild, engulfing you, revealing where your lust for result has betrayed your purity of will.

Record your vision. The Princess does not lie — she shows whether your fire is true.

The Elemental Persona of Fire — The Salamandines

Needless to say, this Elemental Persona of Magick is not for the timid! One must be warned: do not mate your energy field with Salamandines if your intent is mere sexual fulfillment. To lust after them is to open yourself to an insatiable fire — a burning passion that cannot be quenched, often leading to madness, obsession, and a lifetime of inner torment. Such unions are not about sensual pleasure; they are about consuming transformation.

Stick with your own species if it is fulfillment you seek. To attempt intercourse with an Elohim of Fire is to risk annihilation in flame, to be devoured by passion rather than elevated by it. Few who try such unions come away whole.

Fortunately, in this modern age, the risk is low: summoning an Elohim of the Salamandines is nearly impossible, for the “old ways” have been forgotten, and the astral planes that once shone brightly in the collective psyche have dimmed through neglect. Their currents still exist, but our influence over them is weak.

Yet this does not mean the Elements are absent. There is “living Fire” as surely as there is “living Water,” “living Air,” and “living Earth” — the latter known to us as organic life itself. Through Earth Magick, these living currents can be contacted. Whether one should attempt to contact them at all, however, belongs to the discerning path of initiation. For the student of Hermetics, restraint and discernment are the first safeguards when stepping into contact with the Elemental Elohim.

Hermetic Note for Students

  • The Salamandines (Fire Elementals): Embodiments of flame, dazzling, consuming, irresistible. They test whether one’s passion is pure Will or mere lust.

  • Danger: To unite with them improperly is to fall into obsession and imbalance — fire turned destructive.

  • Modern Protection: Humanity’s psychic amnesia has veiled these realms, making such encounters rare.

  • Living Elements: Fire, Water, Air, and Earth still possess living intelligences. They can be approached ritually through Earth Magick, but only with clarity of Will and respect for their nature.

Meditation Exercise

Hold the Princess of Wands or Page of Wands card. Imagine it blazing with “living fire.” Ask inwardly:

Am I seeking transformation, or am I seeking possession?

If the fire warms and illuminates, you are ready to receive its teaching. If it scorches and blinds, it is a warning that your Will is not yet tempered.

As a birthday Tarot card- archetypal personality, the Princess/Page of Wands represents a fiery nature in a young-passionate, woman who is also consumptive and not prone to monogamy.

When Thrown during a divination: The Princess or Page of Wands denotes a anima or female of:

  1.  Her beauty is created by her own vigorous energy.
  2.  Her passion is so great that one is dazzled by a chemical reaction that enforces the impression of beauty on the beholder.
  3. Being a type of "spontaneous combustion", in anger or love she is violent, sudden, and implacable.
  4. She can often be irrational, when displaying her enthusiasm, fiery ambition, and aspiring nature.
  5. Such a Princess personality, never forgets an injury and the only patience she shows, is when lying in ambush to revenge a perceived wrong.
  6. She is often self-absorbed to the extent that she is entirely reckless in achieving gratification and is notably insatiable.
  7. When referring to Tantra, she would be the proper Shakti for the Real Shiva, as she could absorb any fire he could display.  However, as is all Power known to be, she is as destructive as she is constructive, so caution and encouragement compete with each other in this one.
  8. For myself, Passion is the foundation of the Universe, and this type of person or anima is a thrill to behold and to a Prince of Wands, the proper mate of the moment, as his swiftness and vigor is to be "invoked" and Her insatiable Passion will invoke the very rocks into flame! But like all fires, one must know how to work with it to properly achieve the necessary transformations of their Great Work. I'll not go further into the Magick applications here, as this is not a treatise on magic- eroticism, although if our eyes are not blinded by the fear of Passion, we'll see that the Universe is a hot-bed of Pure Passion to be and began as Eheieh-meaning "I Will BE"; an insight that the Princess/Page of Wands surely has.

Needless to say, if ill defined The Princess/Page of Wands persona, would be the defects of such passion.

  • She would be superficial and theatrical, shallow and false while never expecting that she is anything of the sort.
  • She becomes predominately a "spasm of mood" and she is cruel, unreliable, faithless and domineering.
