Thoth- 4 of swords-truce
Chesed the 4th Sephiroth is the Universal Architect. Therefore, the 4s suggest perfection, realization, completion and fixing a matter to a rock solid stability.
In the 4 of Swords, this stability is a form of Truce, where equal tension, makes a stability of mental powers. However, a Truce is a weak agreement, usually made by the warring parties, weary of a stalemate and needing to regroup for further hostilities.
The 4 of Swords represents Chesed in Yetzirah, influencing the astral world of the Moon/unconscious.
As you may know, mental creation happens in the fluid light of the Astral World before the manifestation is solidified by reflection into the Material World. Now you may not be able to clearly see that you are not a body....You really are a Yod (hand of God)and/or a Divine Copy of the Divine Creative in the Universal Collective Unconscious, so your Real body, is the Tree of Life....the homo sapiens sapiens body is the avatar, for sensual purposes, of your "dreams" and resides with in the solar aura of the Invisible you. That Invisible you is acting as Jupiter in this card, for Jupiter is in Libra. Thus the normal destructive Swords, are put to rest in the munificent, benevolent and loving nature of Jupiter. Each of us, is a Trinity, in this Universal fractal of Self. We all are Spirit (yod)Mind (soul/psyche) and Body.
The Rose, of Mother Sophia, is restored and Consciousness is settled, and a rest from strife is implied by the 4 of Swords. Jupiter in Libra radiates compassion and sensitivity showing the Mercy that is Chesed.
Here Jupiter claims authority in the intellectual world. Arguing for convention, Jupiter restores mental balance after the chaos of arbitrary thought.
In the 4 of Swords card, the hilts of the Swords, are formed into the corners of the St, Andrew's Cross, suggesting the rigidity and fixation implied in the 4. The Rose of 49 petals, in which the Swords are sheathed, suggesting social harmony. Therefore, there is a suggestion of compromise. As does Crowley, I find this compromise to be a less than positive factor. For it is an act of an indolent mind, that would rather be pusillanimous and compromise for social peace rather than work out the issue through the promised struggle. However, it may be to keep the peace; but peace at any cost, is not always preferable.
tarot of the ages- four of swords
The Tarot of The Ages- 4 of Swords, continues its images of the Norse warrior. Here he is at rest but an rest that seems precarious under the 3 hanging swords. The Raven on a Skull, is the German Symbol for "Kaput", meaning dead. Opposite of the Raven, is a Stork, symbolizing to the Norse, the return of the soul as a commitment to others. Meaning that this one is as dead, but will soon rise again to fulfill agreements. * Outside, a flying dove bearing a branch of peace in its bill. Once again, this truce with death and/or peace is seen as a weak compromise as it will soon "fly bye".
*In Egyptian mythology, the soul of a person—the ba —was usually represented by a stork. The return of a stork meant the return of the soul, at which point the person could become animated again. In Norse mythology, the stork represented family values and commitment to one another.
Therefore, the Four of Swords of this Tarot of The Ages, is comparable to the Thoth Tarot.
