Medieval Feathers Tarot- 7 of Cups

Qabalistic Tree of Life (Divine Molecule/DNA)

Thoth 7 of cups-Debauch

Lemniscate-Hermetic symbol for infinity.

The primordial Passion that birthed a Universe of Self is a force far too vast for the self-absorbed brain to contain—its petty cosmos bound by the refrain of “my feelings”, mistaking personal sentiment for the pulse of Creation itself. In the higher Truth, the Mystery of 0=2 unfolded so that the Two might dance their way back into the One, as Creatrix and Creator entwine in the eternal embrace—a sacred communion from which all worlds are woven.
Yet within the distorted lens of the human heart, this holy union is profaned into a restless emotional hunger—a dance not of fulfillment, but of corrosive longing. Such viscous desire finds perfect emblem in the slimy, intoxicating art of the Thoth 7 of Cups – Debauch. Here, poisoned lotuses have degenerated into tiger lilies and tainted white lilies, their petals spotted with mold. The seven cups, iridescent yet dissolving in their own intoxication, are arranged as two descending triangles—symbols of the descent of spirit into matter—interlaced with a single, larger lower cup, signifying the dominance of base influences over the emotional nature. This entire construction floats in a stagnant morass of putrefaction, suggesting a beauty gone to rot.
Crowley himself wrote in The Book of Thoth (p. 184):
“This is one of the worst ideas that one can have; its mode is poison, its goal madness. It represents the delusion of Delirium Tremens and drug addiction; it represents the sinking into the mire of false pleasure. There is something almost suicidal in this card.”
In the Qabalistic formula, the 7 of Cups is Netzach—desire, love, and instinct—polluted by the rank overflow of excess, where the drive toward union collapses into obsession and self-poisoning. It is the Divine Passion inverted, Spirit drowned in its own reflection.

Therefore, the 7 of Cups serves as a sobering reminder of the fatal ease with which a Sacrament—be it Love or the sacred eros of the flesh—may be profaned and prostituted. It takes but the smallest loss of inner balance, a subtle drifting from the Middle Pillar—the equilibrium of Masculine and Feminine upon the Tree of Life—for the holiest Mysteries of Nature to devolve into the obscene and shameful “secrets” of a guilt-ridden, indoctrinated mind. In this state, consciousness reels beneath an emotional hangover born of excessive indulgence, where the ecstasy of union has soured into the sickness of excess.

Netzach, is that green Sephiroth on the lower illustrated Tree of Life. Green is the color attributed to Venus, and it is the patina of profaned copper and therefore, seen as the dominant color of the Thoth Card. Venus also represents the planet of the symbolic intelligence of Netzach, the Sephiroth that is associated with Love, feelings and instinct, the Group Mind (Egregore), Nature, and the Arts. The 3 Symbols (Trinity Goddess) for Netzach are.

The Girdle,

The Rose,

And the Lamp

The Medieval Feathers Tarot- 7 of Cups
Medieval Feathers – 7 of Cups
This card presents an array of eight attractively decorated goblets, each a vessel of possibility. Many options lie before you, glittering with potential. Yet before they were gathered together, these seven cups once stood apart—each independent, each pursuing its own mission without reliance on others. Now, united, they offer a dazzling spectrum of opportunities that can inspire or overwhelm.
In this state, the mind may drift into wishful thinking, illusion, or the intoxicating haze of fantasy. The querent may be sabotaging their own progress by escaping into distractions—be it daydreams, endless “what-ifs,” online gaming, or the shallow dopamine pools of social media—until the present moment becomes a swamp of indecision.
Yet there is also a higher potential here: when these seven recognize their shared essence, they unite into a common bond, each cup lending its strength to see the others through any task. At the base, the Desert Finch’s feather rests inside the bottom cup, serving as a quiet reminder to stand independently when necessary—self-reliance being the foundation for any true alliance. It reminds you to keep an eye open for all the wonderful opportunities which are at your disposal and understand that each brings a unique outcome when selected.
Divinatory Meaning:
When the Medieval Feathers – 7 of Cups appears upright, it signals a moment to step forward with independent resolve. Relying too heavily on others may blur your clarity. By standing on your own, you gain sharper insight into your true skills, while also revealing what still needs refinement.
Inverted / Reversed:
There may be a desire to rekindle a valued connection—be it romantic, platonic, or familial—but obstacles stand in the way, often in the form of personal challenges or unresolved issues. Before approaching this person, ensure that your own house is in order. Only by clearing the inner clutter can the path to reconciliation be walked without illusion or regret.

It also pays to know that the human form is both sacrament and pharmacy—a living temple in which the sacred chemistry of endorphins, dopamine, and other divine elixirs are brewed. These inner pharmaceuticals are awakened by imagination, which is itself the holy engine of creation. For a sacrament is not merely an object but a rite—an intentional act through which Spirit expresses its will to be. Since the body is alive, conscious in its own biochemical way, it becomes the rite of the Soul made flesh, the embodiment of the Divine’s will-to-be. Such a rite demands clarity of intent, for the alchemy of the flesh responds faithfully to the images and desires impressed upon it.

The Hermetic Path from “I Will Be” to “I AM”
In the Qabalistic Tree of Life, Kether is the Crown—the First Emanation, the primal point of pure Will before any differentiation. Its Divine Name is Eheieh (“I Will Be”), the seed-thought of the Infinite desiring to know Itself. This is the first movement of Will in the Universe, the birth of the Cosmos from the No-Thing.
When this Will descends the Tree, it seeks not only to express but to become conscious of its own expression. That journey culminates in Tiphareth, the Solar center of harmony and beauty. Tiphareth is the point where Spirit becomes Self-aware within form—where the declaration changes from the future tense “I Will Be” to the present-tense “I AM.”
Thus, the human soul is the bridge between Kether’s potential and Tiphareth’s realization. We are the point where the Crown’s intention crystallizes into the living presence of identity—the I AM Being.
The Inversion into “I Ain’t”
In its pure state, the descent of Will through the Tree is balanced, flowing through the Middle Pillar. However, in the realm of human culture, that stream of divine identity is often hijacked by external forces. The modern Social Egregore—manifest in political manipulation, religious dogma, and the Military-Industrial Complex—deploys a psychological strategy of “divide and conquer” within the self.
In Qabalistic terms, this inversion fractures the Middle Pillar:
Kether’s “I Will Be” is not allowed to reach Tiphareth intact.
The flow diverts into the Qliphothic shells—those hollowed, dead forms that parody the living Sephiroth.
Instead of “I AM” (Tiphareth in balance), the identity becomes fragmented into a chorus of contradictory self-images: “I am this… I am that… I am not enough… I ain’t worthy… I ain’t capable.”
Structurally, this is the Tree turned upside-down, where the light of Kether cannot crown the Self but is swallowed by the inverted shell of Thagirion—the false Sun—radiating distorted self-images instead of true presence.
Qabalistic Exercise to Restore the “I AM” Presence
Purpose: To reconnect Kether’s “I Will Be” with Tiphareth’s “I AM,” dissolving the false “I Ain’t” and restoring the Middle Pillar flow.
Preparation: Stand upright, feet shoulder-width apart, spine straight. Close your eyes.
Attune to Kether –
Visualize a brilliant sphere of white light above your head. Hear within it the soundless Word:
“Eheieh – I Will Be.”
Feel this as the purest, most infinite potential—a promise of your Divine Being before any limitation.Descend to Tiphareth –
Imagine this light descending through your crown, down the center of your body, to rest in the heart center. There, see a golden six-rayed sun—Tiphareth—pulsing with warmth. As the white light merges with the gold, declare aloud:
“I AM.”
Let the words vibrate in your chest until they feel like a living heartbeat.Dissolve the “I Ain’t” –
See the shadows and false labels—“I’m not enough,” “I’m broken,” “I’m unworthy”—as black smoke swirling in the heart. With each exhale, blow this smoke upward into the white light above, where it is transmuted back into pure potential.Seal the Presence –
Place your hands over your heart and say:
“As above, so below. I Am the Crown made manifest in Beauty.”Return –
Open your eyes, carrying the sensation of the Golden Sun in your chest into your next action.
Hermetic Insight:
This exercise is not mere affirmation—it is the direct restoration of the Middle Pillar current, aligning the Will-to-Be with the Being-that-Is. The more this practice is repeated, the more immune the psyche becomes to the hypnotic programming of the false egregores, until the “I AM” Presence becomes the natural state of consciousness.
It is time to above all things, know thyself!

M.I.C.

One reason many turn to excess is to escape the sting of emotional pain—pain often rooted in the obfuscation of identity. When you no longer know who you are, the psyche seeks anesthetics: indulgence, distraction, intoxication. Yet the outer world is always a mirror, reflecting the inner world’s constructions. Everything you encounter in the external is first forged in the inner realm of Imagination.
It is vital to understand: no one can cause your emotional pain. Pain is your reaction to another’s action, to an event, or to an environment—filtered through your own self-perception. This is why deep inner work is unavoidable. You must descend into your personal underworld, confront the shadows, and embrace the pain—not to wallow in it, but to reclaim the power it has been feeding in secrecy.
However, when the social egregore gains control of your imagination through indoctrinated fantasies and engineered narratives, it implants a false ego. This counterfeit self is a tangle of borrowed labels, prepackaged desires, and inherited fears—none of which belong to your true essence.
The Truth is that you declare your world through the words “I AM…”.
I AM is the eternal truth, the unshakable axis of Being.
What follows “I AM” is an assumption, an internal decree of identity that shapes your reality.
In the Qabalistic sense, I AM is Tiphareth receiving the current of Kether’s “I Will Be,” while what follows those words determines whether your Tree of Life is fed by the living Sephiroth or drained by the hollow shells of the Qliphoth.
Imagination is therefore the altar upon which you author your own existence. But this altar must be consciously tended: every image, every self-definition must be examined for truth and then authorized with clarity of Will. You are your only Author—and life is the story you are continuously telling yourself.
Above all things, know thyself!

The 7 of Cups corresponds to Netzach, the first Sephirah of the Astral Triangle (Netzach, Hod, Yesod). Netzach is the first facet of your energy intelligence—the subconscious architecture that helps shape the personality of the individual self. And yes, let’s be clear: this “personality” is not you. You create it as a vehicle, a mask, a working ambassador of your Solar Presence on Earth.
As I’ve said before, the personality is composed of the Four Universal Alchemical Elements, each represented by the lower Sephiroth in the sequence of Fire, Water, Air, and Earth:
Netzach = Fire
Hod = Water
Yesod = Air
Malkuth = Earth
Netzach is the lower reflection of the fiery Yod of Chokmah, refracted through Geburah and then harmonized in Tiphareth. This is the living formula of the Tetragrammaton (Yod–Heh–Vau–Heh), where Malkuth is the final Heh—the “fall” into manifestation. This so-called “fall” is not a sin or a punishment, but a sacred condensation—a coagulation of the vast Macrocosmic Self into a finite form for intimate self-examination.
In this descent, the Divine Creative seeks to know Itself microcosmically, through the sensual immediacy of form. Knowledge requires intimacy; intimacy requires embodiment; embodiment demands a full, informed exploration of one’s own creation.
Thus, as the Celestial Self, we must first love the “fall” into matter—not as exile, but as a deliberate act of the Law of Love. To proclaim “I AM the manifested Law of Love” is to embrace both Spirit and Flesh as equal parts of the sacred experiment of Being.

In Netzach, the normal waking consciousness of the student must confront the intoxicating illusions generated within the Astral (Dream) Triangle of the subconscious. This realm contains the many composite threads of the Personality—but we must remember: we are not the Personality. The Personality is the Soul’s mask, the necessary covering it must wear in order to be perceived—much like the bandages wrapped around the invisible man so that others could see him. In this case, however, the “bandages” are made of words.

Over time, these word-wrappings—names, labels, roles, and definitions—form a tangled skein of propaganda and false identities. If these wrappings remain unexamined, they are like Band-Aids left on an old wound: eventually, putrefaction sets in.
In the human psyche, this putrefaction is the festering of outdated self-definitions—those words imprinted upon the brain in youth by indoctrination, dogma, and social conditioning. Left unchallenged, they infect the subconscious with a deep self-rejection trauma. When this is repressed rather than transmuted, the wound can remain hidden yet active for a lifetime, distorting every act of self-perception and every relationship with the outer world.
Netzach’s challenge (and that of the 7 of cups), therefore, is not only to navigate the glamour of its own fiery creative current, but to strip away these rotting bandages of false identity so that the living radiance of the Solar Self can shine unobscured.

Once again, the timeless axiom of Qabalah—“Above all things, know thyself”—resounds with undeniable truth. You are the I AM—the union of Spirit and Mind. The body is the Me—the organic ego, a construct of assumptions. The True You is the I AM; the dream-images of “What I AM” form the Me you presently identify as.
Understand this: you are far greater than the institutions you serve or the roles you perform. What you are is an assumption—nothing more—and thus it can be reshaped the moment you will it. Merely recognizing that you are magnificent sets you on the right trajectory for your entire life.
You are free to be as you will; therefore, no one has the right—or the power—to name you. That authority belongs to you alone.

The most essential work of Western Hermetic Initiation is the steady, disciplined observation of the layers of lies that form your personality—peeling them away, one by one, until the Real You shines unobstructed. The garbage in is the man-made persona; the garbage out is the dysfunctional habit of “seeking yourself” in the approval of peers, the flattery of words, or the sanction of some external authority.
Your indoctrinated ego is an imposter. You are already Spiritually approved—you exist. The software of personality, designed to operate the wetware of the body in the name of the I AM, was authored by your Higher Self—often called the Soul, though it is more accurately a reflection of the Universal Greater Self.
Conformity to the social egregore is not a mark of disgrace—it was, for most, a survival necessity. As children, you learned that to reject the man-made order and remain true to your essence was to invite punishment. In response, the subconscious—your survival mind—constructed a compliance-based “survival personality,” replacing the Solar Soul’s radiant identity with one cobbled together from the demands of others. You become the manmade world narative, rather than the narative of the soul.
But here is the hard question: how can you hope to correct the “ills” of society while remaining a carrier of the same infection? Indoctrination is a mental virus—it must be analyzed, understood, and dissolved before immunity can be built. This immunity is forged through Wisdom and Reason grounded in the Law of Love.
Love is the law and the foundation of waking consciousness; fear is the foundation of the subconscious survival mind. The work of Initiation is to retrain the subconscious—teaching it the Wisdom that is Love. For to fear death is to fear Life. To fear pain is to chain yourself to pleasure. And to fear being yourself is to sell your birthright for the counterfeit currency of acceptance.
“I AM” is the primal declaration of existence. Yet the moment you say “what I AM,” you shift from the eternal Spirit to the assumed Me—a construct freely imagined by the Original Author: the individual Soul, whose aware presence is the awake consciousness inhabiting your life.

If you doubt that your Soul is alien to this world’s evolution, consider this: your DNA—the blueprint of your body—has been estimated by many geneticists to be at least 14.5 billion years old, with some arguing it may be trillions of years in age. Yet the Earth itself is only 4.5 billion years old. This means your DNA predates the planet by more than threefold.
Even more telling, your DNA is the only DNA molecule on Earth—something that is evolutionarily impossible if it had arisen solely through terrestrial processes. The inescapable conclusion is that it is a designed molecular intelligence, a living code seeded from beyond this world.
Your body is Earth’s clay; your DNA is a stellar cipher. The “I AM” within you is the author of that code—the consciousness that wears the Me as a garment for a time, yet is older than the Earth and kin to the stars.

"The God's made man"-is a statement of Genetic Modification of "Those who from the Heavens came to Earth", known to the Sumerians as the Anunnaki.

The Ten Sephiroth as the Divine Creative Within
In the Hermetic Qabalah, the Ten Sephiroth are not merely abstract stations on the Tree of Life—they are living intelligences, demigods, facets of the Divine Creative. Each is a specialized mode of Consciousness, and all together they form the architecture of the True You. The “image of God” is not a single likeness, but the cooperation of these ten forces, condensed into the intimacy of human form.
Like a Möbius strip, your Being is a seamless loop: Spirit descends into matter (emanation) and returns again to Spirit (involution), without any true separation between the “outer” and “inner” surfaces of your existence.
1. Kether – The Crown
Eheieh – “I Will Be”
The primal point of infinite Will, the seed of all existence. Here resides the pure, undivided awareness that is your origin. In the Möbius cycle, this is the moment before movement—the infinite potential poised to descend.
2. Chokmah – Wisdom
Yah – The Lightning Stroke of Creative Impulse
The masculine force of dynamic Will, the primal thrust of energy. Chokmah is the “Yes” of Creation, the unrestrained outpouring of life-force.
3. Binah – Understanding
YHVH Elohim – The Womb of Form
The feminine force of containment and structure, shaping Chokmah’s energy into potential worlds. Binah is the Great Sea into which the lightning falls.
4. Chesed – Mercy
El – The Law of Expansion
The benevolent organizing intelligence, projecting order, stability, and growth into Creation. In the loop, Chesed is where the raw forces begin to harmonize into living systems.
5. Geburah – Severity
Elohim Gibor – The Law of Strength
The divine surgeon, cutting away excess and enforcing discipline. Geburah ensures that what is built in Chesed remains purposeful and pure.
6. Tiphareth – Beauty
YHVH Eloah va-Daath – The Solar Self
The heart and balance-point of the Tree. Here, the “I Will Be” of Kether becomes the living “I AM.” Tiphareth is the radiant consciousness that knows itself both as microcosm and macrocosm. In the Möbius image, this is the twisting point where inner and outer exchange places.
7. Netzach – Victory
YHVH Tzabaoth – The Creative Fire of Desire
The artistry, emotion, and passionate drive to manifest beauty in form. Netzach is the personal fire of will-to-create, the living ember of divine passion within the personality.
8. Hod – Splendour
Elohim Tzabaoth – The Architect’s Mind
The intellectual counterpart to Netzach’s emotion; Hod applies logic, language, and precise form to creative passion. Together, Netzach and Hod generate the astral blueprints of reality.
9. Yesod – Foundation
Shaddai El Chai – The Dreaming Mirror
The psychic nexus where all the energies of the upper spheres are gathered, reflected, and impressed upon the subconscious. Yesod is the astral womb from which physical reality will be born.
10. Malkuth – The Kingdom
Adonai ha-Aretz – The Bride of the Microcosm
The final crystallization of all higher energies into tangible form. Malkuth is where Spirit becomes matter, completing the descent—and also the gateway for the return up the Tree.

The Möbius Strip as the Secret of the Tree
The Möbius strip is the perfect metaphor for the Hermetic cycle: there is no “outside” and “inside” to your being—only one continuous surface of awareness that changes apparent orientation as it moves. The descent from Kether to Malkuth and the ascent from Malkuth back to Kether are not two separate journeys but one seamless loop.
In emanation, Spirit learns of itself through form. In return, form realizes itself as Spirit. This infinite circulation is the Dance of the Creatrix and Creator—the eternal self-reflection of the Divine Creative.
When you stand as the True You, the I AM, you become conscious of both directions at once: you are the star descending into the world and the world ascending into the star.

Netzach is where the Sun of Tiphareth begins reflecting in matter.

The Spirit's dream manifests/coagulates as "you" in the liquid of mind.
So, as you may see, when we are dealing with Netzach, we are dealing with understanding a particularly difficult State of energy conscious called the instinctual or racial mind. Netzach is where both the Macrocosm and Microcosm meet, where the Lesser-Self (planetary) and Greater-Self (Celestial) come together, to form something spectacular. Thus, we are dealing with the understanding of the entire race patterns of humankind, "the gods" (Those who from the heavens came to earth), and patterns of individual persona. But if that isn't enough, we must understand that manifestation is an assumption of the I AM!
A Cosmic Image of Self.

The 7 of cups, remind us to: "Get over yourself and get on with you, for impeccability is what we do!"

There is a Western Hermetic ritual that can help clarify choices when one is overwhelmed by possibilities. The ritual draws on the principles of balance, introspection, and alignment with higher wisdom, incorporating Qabalistic, elemental, and astrological symbolism. Below is an example of such a ritual:
Ritual of Clarification of the Path
This ritual uses the symbolism of the Tree of Life, the Four Elements, and one's connection to the Higher Self or Divine Will.
Preparation
Set Up the Ritual Space:
- Place a white altar cloth on your altar.
- Arrange the following:
- A candle representing your Higher Self (white or gold).
- A Tarot card representing the path or issue (e.g., The Lovers for choices, The Chariot for direction).
- A bowl of water (symbolizing emotions and intuition).
- A small dish of salt (earth and grounding).
- A censer or incense (air and mental clarity).
- A small candle (fire and inspiration).
Consecrate the Space:
- Perform the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram (LBRP) to clear and protect the space.
The Ritual Steps
Invocation of the Higher Self:
- Light the central candle, saying: "I call upon my Higher Self, the spark of the Divine within me. Grant me clarity, balance, and alignment with my true Will as I seek guidance on my path."
Centering on the Tree of Life:
- Close your eyes and visualize the Tree of Life. See yourself standing at Tiphareth (Beauty), the central sphere of harmony and balance.
- Envision the light of Kether (the Crown) descending through the Middle Pillar and filling you with pure, clarifying energy.
Meditation on the Elements:
- Light the elemental representations one by one, focusing on their qualities:
- Earth (Salt): Touch the salt and say, "May I be grounded and practical, perceiving the truth beneath appearances."
- Water (Bowl of Water): Dip your fingers in the water and say, "May I connect with my intuition and emotional wisdom."
- Air (Incense): Waft the incense toward you and say, "May my mind be clear and open to new insights."
- Fire (Candle): Light the small candle and say, "May my spirit be inspired and aligned with my true Will."
- Light the elemental representations one by one, focusing on their qualities:
Tarot Reflection:
- Place the chosen Tarot card (e.g., The Lovers) at the center of your altar. Reflect on its symbolism in relation to your situation.
- Contemplate the paths or possibilities before you. Ask yourself: "Which choice aligns with my Higher Self and my ultimate purpose?"
- Journal any impressions, feelings, or visions that arise.
Petition for Guidance:
- Say aloud or silently: "Higher Self, Divine Source, and my spiritual allies, illuminate the best path for me. Show me the choice that aligns with my soul’s growth and highest good."
Divination or Scrying (Optional):
- If desired, use a divination tool (Tarot, pendulum, or scrying mirror) to receive further guidance.
Closing and Gratitude:
- Extinguish the elemental candles and incense, giving thanks for their assistance.
- End the ritual with the Qabalistic Cross (part of the LBRP) to re-center and seal the work.
Additional Tips
- Perform this ritual during the waxing moon for clarity and forward movement.
- Align the timing with astrological influences, such as Mercury for mental clarity or the Moon for intuition.
- Repeat the ritual as needed until you feel a sense of peace and resolution.
This practice can bring clarity by aligning your conscious mind with the wisdom of your Higher Self, allowing you to see your path more clearly and move forward confidently.
Above all things, know thy Celestial-Self!
When the 7 of Cups- is thrown it implies:
- The querent is being cautioned about the apparent Victory of Denial.
- There is a suggestion of deceit, promises unfulfilled, illusion, and error.
- Slight success may be experienced, a minor victory so to speak, but not enough energy to retain it.
- The querent may be experiencing drunkenness, wrath, vanity, lust and promiscuity or even violence against women; a violence which is not limited to the male sex.
- A warning against illusionary hopes and false promises.
- Beware of arrogance and complacency.
- Release past intoxication with emotional self-absorption.
If ill defined by the surrounding cards, it implies:
- This card bespeaks of selfish dissipation.
- Deception in love and friendship.
- Lust.
- Addiction.
- Lapsing into the swamp of false pleasures.
- Hidden problems emerging.
