The Notoria Tarot in Light- Page of Wands

The you that you think is you, is not you. It is a dream you. In fact, the you that you think is you, is a dreamer inside a dreamer inside a dreamer inside a dreamer. You are the King of the Universe who has fallen asleep and is dreaming he is the Queen who has fallen asleep and is dreaming she is the Prince who has fallen asleep and is dreaming he is a sleeping Princess.

In some tarot decks wands are called clubs, batons or rods and in the Notoria Tarot in Light, wands are often Candles but no matter what you call them, wands represent the fiery nature of Spiritual (Energy) expansion and expression and/or the fiery energy often called "sex energy", "Vital Life Force" etc.; Spirit is the Fiery-Will that binds together everything, including the 4 Universal Elements. The Princess of Wands, is also a male person in some cards and is often called a Page or Knave. The Tarot Knaves, Pages are traditionally androgynous cards and Alister Crowley, Lady Freda Harris, and Kay Steventon (Spiral Tarot) replaced them with Princesses, simply because of the formula of Tetragrammaton (YHVH) is well met with Princesses who are Daughters of the King and Queen. Knaves just didn’t work in that Qabalistic formula which is well explained in Crowley's Book of Thoth. Since this card represents a combination of Fire and Earth (fire of earth card) it is truly an androgynous expression of mastery of internal blocks, obstacles and obstructions, as well as, fearless, spontaneous expression. On the Crowley card she has the tiger by the tail implying fearlessness as the tiger is the traditional Chinese symbol for fear. In other words, she controls the survival mind that is the subconscious, rather than being controlled by it. Owning one's subconscious (animal survival mind) by making it more conscious through wise observation, instead of being owned by it, allows risk taking which is part of the Greater Journey of the Soul.

Thoth Tarot states that the daughter of the King and Queen, is both magnetic and electric; a free and liberated spirit that resides in all of us as a divine inheritance; hence a sleeping divine personal fiery-force in our personalities that originated in the Soul and lies in the core of our being. This fiery force is all about motion; "moving up" in new directions that are fearless and energizing like her Sun wand. Wearing the Aries crown, the Princess has placed her old obstructions and fears on the altar of spring and offers them as a spring sacrifice, a fuel to the fire of regeneration. Totally exposed and seemingly defenseless she boldly expresses her new motion creating her own beauty by her essential vigor and force. She believes in the power statement of "Get over yourself and get on with you, impeccability is what we do"! She is a Solar Self that owns and runs her physical self with her inner-spiritual fire and makes her physical body her own power tool/ Solar Wand. Aries, is Mars the Roman God of War, a martial power that is also both fertile and fecund.

The Princess of Wands is the earthly part of fire and/or the fuel of fire. She represents the irresistible chemical attraction the combustible substance, the connotations of which go beyond physical matter into Spiritual potency and spontaneous action. As before stated, the Princesses have no zodiac attributions, yet they represent four types of human being. They are more of an "elemental" personage, whose moral character---is often open and freewheeling. Lots of Passion but not a lot of "common sense". In the Thoth Deck they are subdivided according to planetary predominance, thus the Princess of Wands is associated with the Eastern quadrant of the sky above the North Pole.

broken image

When we examine the image of this Thoth card, we see that she has plumes of fire radiating from her brow; these symbolize justice. Since chemical action can only happen when each element is free to combine with its partner, she is shown unclothed and also represents immature and/or virgin sexuality. She is surging leaping flame, with the Sun Wand in her left hand and the "tiger by the tail" in her right, she shows both her solar power, sexuality and fearlessness. She actually represents the Virgin Fire Priestess of the Lords of Fire (also the Roman Vestal Virgin keepers of the eternal flame) and is in attendance of the Aries- Ram- headed flaming -altar of spring. The Powerful Sun/Son Wand in her hand represents the Primal Male Solar Phallus, whose powerful expression she controls.

When the Princes of Wands Dances in your heart, Passion is your life motion.

Just looking at this card tells you that this Person is highly individual and showing passionate qualities of brilliance and daring. Being too hot for the controlling male, her best mate must be one who loves heart rending passion without possession and/or the Prince of Cups in his highest state. Her beauty is created by her own vigorous energy. Her passion is so great that one is dazzled by a chemical reaction that enforces the impression of beauty on the beholder. Being a type of "spontaneous combustion", in anger or love she is violent, sudden, and implacable. She can often be irrational, when displaying her enthusiasm, fiery ambition, and aspiring nature. Such a Princess, never forgets an injury-----and the only patience she shows, is when lying in ambush to revenge a perceived wrong. She is often self-absorbed to the extent that she is entirely reckless in achieving gratification and is notably insatiable. When referring to Tantra, she would be the proper Radha for the God Krishna, as she could absorb and/or reintegrate any fire he could display. However, as is all contained Fire, her energy can be as destructive as it is constructive, so caution and encouragement compete with each other in this one.

The Eternal Flame of the 0=2

For myself, Passion is the foundation of the Universe, and this type of person is a thrill to behold and to a Prince of Cups, the proper mate of the moment, as his swiftness, stormy nature and vigor is to be "invoked" and her insatiable Passion will invoke the very rocks into flame! But like all fires, one must know how to work with it to properly achieve the necessary transformations of their Great Work. I'll not go further into the Western Hermetic Magick applications here, as this is not a treatise on eroticism, or invoking Salamanders, although if our eyes are not blinded by the fear of Passion, we'll see that the Universe is a hotbed of Pure Passion to be; that creation is "Sex Magic"(negative pole attracts positive electrons), which is an insight that the Princess of Wands surely has. Needless to say, if ill-defined The Princess of Wands persona, would be the defects of such passion. She would be superficial and theatrical, shallow and false while never expecting that she is anything of the sort. She then becomes predominantly a "spasm of mood" and she is cruel, unreliable, faithless and domineering.

The Big Bang

broken image

The Phoenix

To meditate or skry on this card is to invoke the "inner fires" of the "Big Bang" that all form is forged from; be sure you are willing to become a Phoenix before you try. You must be strong in virtue (true to yourself) and need not a state of permanence for personal comfort; in other words, "Above all things know thyself" before entering the Core Fires of Spirit, and/or awakening the Kundalini/Sleeping Princess at the base of your spine, for in this immature state, the violent motion of change is breathtaking and often fatal to the weak personality. But for those who succeed in the slow invocation of this fire, and allow the flow to mature----you'll love your fiery wings!

Thoth- Ace of Wands

The Princess of Wands and the Ace of Wands

The Thoth Tarot- Ace of Wands, shown as a fiery club or in the case of the Princess of Wands, a solar wand. On the Ace there are Flames in shape of Yods, representing the essence or seed of the Alchemical Element-Fire/Energy. It is a solar-phallic outburst of flame from which lightning springs forth in multi-direction. If you were looking at the Sun, it would comparable to multiple solar flares, as this is how the Sun acts as a phallus by ejecting its "seed" into the dark womb of space-time. It is the earliest stage of Primordial matter, unwilled and violent.

Yod

The letter Yod of is the 10th Hebrew letter of the Hebrew Alphabet. Yod or Yud (spelling is phonetic), is considered to be a dot or point as it is the one letter incorporated into all of the Hebrew letters. The Yod represents the Creator, the single point from which all of creation emerges, and the Unity within multiplicity and/or the Universal Collective Unconscious. It is known as the foundation of all foundations, the hidden Divine spark which causes everything to be. It is important to remember that, although the small cards are sympathetic to their numbered Sephiroth, they are not identical nor are they Divine Persons. They are more like sub-elements and/or parts of "Blind Forces" whose ruling intelligences are of the Realm of Yetzirah, The Formulative World (Shemhamphorasch). Hence they are aspects of you and I. Each of us is our own Tree of Life. What is astounding to note, if not confusing, is that each Sephiroth has its own Tree of Life and hierarchy, as well. Obviously this requires more investigation on the student’s part. For I wouldn't wish to take the joy of discovery from you. As a student of 50 years plus- who teaches Qabalistic Tarot, I am still investigation this phenomenon called the Multiverse of Self and/or I AM … and will be for a millennia to come.

For a quick recap: THE PRINCESS OF WANDS represents the Earthly part of Fire. She or he is the expression of the irresistible action of a combustible substance and rules from the Heavens from one quadrant around the North Pole (She=Magnetic Force). It is interesting to note, that the Female Magnetic Force gives Form to the Fiery-electric male force, which in its primeval stage, as the Ace of Wands, is unwilled, unformed and undirected. But like the Magnetic Field of Earth, giving form to the Solar rays, not unlike the Aurora in the night sky, she justifies the direction of this male/electric Force. Seen in the Thoth Card with flames of justice leaping from her forehead, and wearing nothing as a sign that she is perfectly free to combine with her partner; she bears a wand crowned with the Disk of the Sun and leaping into Yod shape surging flame. The Lords of Fire reside in the realm of Yetzirah, towards which she is leaping, thus she can be compared to the Virgin Priestess of the Lords of Fire (Vestal Virgins). Further championing this fact, is the illustration of the flame topped Altar of Spring, in the left lower corner of this card. The "seed of fire", the Ace of Wands" is now given a personal Willful expression in the Princess of Wands, as she is brilliant and daring. She has bridled passion, shown by grasping the Tiger by the Tail, and giving it direction----where she goes--Passion goes.

The name Yod He' Vau He' (YHVH), often called the Secret Hebrew name for God, is attributed to the Court Cards, where Yod, is attributed to Knights, He'-to Queens, Vau- is attributed to Princes and the last He'-is attributed to Princesses, the Earthly Manifestation, as the ultimate issue of the original Energy in its Completion, i.e. crystallization/coagulation. However, they also represent the counter-balancing and re-absorption of the Energy. They are also the Silence into which all things return. The reintegration of energy. The Princesses have no zodiacal attribution, thus they are likened to "elemental" people (Salamanders) who are recognized by their lack of all sense of responsibility and whose moral qualities are very flexible so they are subdivided according to planetary predominance.

broken image

Of such elemental persona Eli Levi wrote:" The love of the Magus for such creatures is insensate, and may destroy him." Which it will, as lovers of the Scarlet Woman (Babalon/Kundalini) have found out. She will consume you, as fire does a wyrm, as Kundalini does to the false ego, only for you to rise again as a phoenix out of the ashes of a once indoctrinated persona (False ego); a form of Dragonish Phoenix is made manifest as a "Sun/Son". Be very cautious young magician, she is spontaneous and unforgiving! But if there is any of the Eternal Fire not profaned in you, and your Will is unshakable in unrequited- Passion's extreme heat, she'll make you blaze as a Star! For all you Priestess Magicians out there, whose "Kundalini" is in full flow, she burns within as a fiery altar of creation; a passion so hot that you become an altar of spring and all that you touch becomes "new growth" and/or regeneration.

In Mesopotamian mythology, *Atargatis was a fish-tailed goddess, who is also represented by the Princess of Wands. She was reputed to give birth to men by swallowing them (The Mouth of a Woman is called the "Maid/Virgin Vulva"), and gave rebirth to Jonah in his earlier Babylonian form as the fish-god Oannes. The Philistines called Jonah, Dagon who was Atargatis's mate. Lots of fun researching this myth, that is a story of a truth for the People of Mesopotamia believed her to be an Amphibian ET ( Anunnaki Goddess who from the sky came) and "mother" of the homo sapiens species!  All in all, The Princess of Wands represents a mysteriously dark-energy power that is both irresistible and with great force. She may be misunderstood or misrepresented by the Patriarchy. Such is the reality created for of all great feminine forces in a world of Misogynic male Patriarchies such as today's Military Industrial Complex.

(*Atargatis was/is a Goddess of Syrian origin whose worship spread to Greece and Rome and throughout Europe. She represented the  Great Mother and Fertility Goddess of the Earth and Water, and was  considered the main Goddess worshipped in Syria. Doves and fish are sacred to Her: doves as an emblem of the Love-Goddess, and fish as symbolic of the fertility and life of the waters).

The Notoria Tarot in Light- Page of wands

The helpful God.

Invocation: Tu autem, Domine, ne elongaveris auxilium tuum a me ad defensionem meam conspice.

The Notoria Tarot in Light-Page of Wands, is shown as a Seraph Jeliel, who is wearing a yellow gold outer remanent and carrying 3 candles (linked to the 3 of Wands) on a silver tray,  representing fire, and who seems to awaken the mysteries of Spiritual Self, while emerging one into the dispassionate, primal, and essential love. One begins to feel the inner stirrings of their Celestial Nature and reaches out to experience more of that brilliant, warm intelligence as the will is sublimated and directed becoming benevolent energy apt to calm conflicts and shed light on our most reckless impulses. The presence of Jeliel , like the Page of Wands, announces, influences, or stimulates the arrival of something new, coming from the Macrocosm to the Microcosm (From above to below). However, an excess of this peaceful influence can cause a stalemate. The sense of satisfaction from this internal-warm-bliss and the consolation it conveys may satiet us so that we want nothing more and thereby, stifle the loving vessel that should submit to the dominance of will, not vise versa.

We are all Celestial Beings, who operate a material being in our name as an avatar in the physical world of Self-reflected sensuality, and each of us possess a deep love for being. There is a youthful feminine quality to this Princess which is not dictated by gender, but rather by the joy of discovering their Spiritual/Celestial Identity through sensual intimacy. Therefore, this card represents: an energetic young person in the querent's life; the stirrings of creativity and initiative within the querent; new products and ventures.

On the left sideboard of this card are listed the attributes of the Page of Wands:

  1. Jeliel's seal.
  2. The original Shem ha Mephorash number: 02; Chorus of Seraphim.
  3. Angelic name: Jeliel.
  4. Tarot card number and name: Page of Wands.
  5. Planet: Saturn.
  6. Zodiac sign: Aries.
  7. Esoterica-assigned by Eliphas Levi and Alister Crowley: 3 of Wands.
  8. Symbol of card's element: Upward pointing triangle of Fire element.

When the Princess /Page of wands card is thrown during a divination it states:

  • Enthusiasm
  • Courage.
  • Beauty.
  • Power.
  • Abundance.
  • That it is time to express one's sense of Freedom (from the Anglo-Saxon Free-doom--which means "I choose my own death".)
  • Adventure, passion to be and initiating something new.
  • If you are male, it points to the anima within you that doesn't want to be limited or obstructed by fear.
  • This is the symbol of the ultimate free spirit within us all that overcomes fear and accelerates creative purpose.
  • We are all "star seeds" and have a deep inner fiery nature that will not be subdued.
  • This person’s inner passion is best/ or being, channeled in life.
  • Joy and good sense.

If ill defined by the surrounding  cards , it implies:

  • Reduced intuitional grasp and ability to be devoted.
  • Sexual problems.
  • Moodiness.
  • Arrogance.
  • Egocentricity.
  • Loss of self-assurance.
