tarot of the old path-queen of pentacles

The Tarot of the Old Path- Queen of Pentacles, is an elegant dark beauty dressed in the Greens of the card's ruling element, earth.

Here the emerald gem that implies the earth element, is in her crown, earrings, and necklace. The leaf shaped grouping of three in her jewelry, indicate the three stages of Goddess as Maid, Mother and Crone.

In the language of flowers, the honey suckles behind her implies she is of a affectionate, devoted, and generous nature.

The spray of wheat in the foreground indicates wealth and prosperity.

The primary meaning of this card seems to be that of a woman who is cultured, intelligent, and elegant, whose interests lie in the arts, civic affairs, and is happily married.

As stated in blogs gone past, Binah, who is the authority of the Queens, is the "will to form" and is a force that is imposed on the Pure Fiery Energy of Chokmah, who is "will to force". She is named Understanding, for an idea, once understood, can be molded into manifestation.

Again, these Queens are not Elemental Persons as are the Princesses, but States of Immortal Conscious Energy, called "Beings" that are parts of the Divine Collective Unconscious, meaning the deep abyss of the Womb of Imagination, where images are formed of the "first material" and words won't explain. Images of divination are the only way to realize these deep inner layers of Mind and "that before Mind".

Binah is the 3rd Sephiroth on the Tree of Life, in the upper part called the Supernal Triangle, She is the essence of Womb, and I often call this state of Mind a "Womb with a View", because She conceives by understanding and is the mother of Psyche.

The Queens all represent the Water in each suit. Water being the Un-Consciousness. They are enthroned in the Element of Unconsciousness and make it bring forth the Force of the Kether known as "I Will Be", by realization and understanding that Will which develops that force into forms of Spiritual being.

The Queen of Disks, often called the Queen of Pentacles, is also Queen of the Thrones of Earth, Queen of the Gnomes. Astrological attribution is the last Decan of Sagittarius and the first two Decans of Capricorn. The Queen of Disks is Water of Earth, a specific consciousness in the Primal Earth element. Most of us call her "Mother Nature".

Her leadership over earth is shown in the crystal cubed scepter that has within it a three-sided Hexagram. Her zodiacal attribute to Capricorn is shown by the image of the Goat. Her Throne is vegetation as she is the life of such.

She is the Highest Aspect of passivity, and this is shown as a winding passive river flowing through and fertilizing the waste land. The Great Work is expressed in fertility, where the "As a Above manifests in the Below" and is shown as Palm trees. She as Queen, is the facilitator of such manifestation. The Disk on her left arm is curved with loops and spheres interlaced, representing the ambition of matter to take part in the Great Work, as do the great spiral horns of the markhor. The Markhor is a large Mongolian mountain goat who is best known by its spectacular spiral horns. The Spiral Energy is Spirit, and/or Serpent Force. Hence, she is most fertile and fecund. This ambition of Nature is often described as Fecund motion. This is also shown by the Spiral Horns on Her helmet/crown, as Spiral force is both Spirit and Vital Life Force. The reptilian patterned armor of the Queen represents the regenerative force in nature, as serpents shed their skin to become more.

When thrown during a reading, the Queen of Discs or Pentacles represents:

  • Shedding poor eating habits for those of a new diet.
  • A shedding of old habits, or even the purchasing of new clothes.
  • The querent does all things she can do, well and it will be fruitful
  • One of an elevated level of compassion, nurturing abilities. loving physical life and all it has to offer.
  • One who is exceptionally pro creative and nurturing in Mothering.

  • Erda, the Teutonic Mother Earth seen as a warm an nurturing deity.

If ill-suited by the surrounding cards, she is one who is suspicious and full of mistrust. Will marry for money and neglect responsibilities.
